Question about 2001 Nissan Sentra

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra SE that won't start when warm without stalling. I have to have my foot on the brake and on the gas to reveev the car to make it run. What can I look for to see what is causing this problem without having to have it serviced?

Same problem with my 1990 Nissan Maxima - car starts fine when cold but normally has to sit for about an hour after being driven before it will crank again. The car is back in the shop for further analysis after replacing the fuel pump failed to solve the problem.

I have the same problem. My 2001 Nissan Sentra XE (1.8 QGDE engine) starts fine when it is cold and runs great but it struggles to start when it is warm. If the car is up to temperature and I stop somewhere for a couple of minutes and then start the car again it turns over but spudders and almost stalls. I have to rev the accelerator to keep the car running. I think it may be a problem with one of the sensors but I am looking for input

When have you replaced the fuel filter? How many miles are on the car? -> check fuel injectors and or fuel pump.
- Lisa

I had a truck that would do the same thing, and it was fuel pump

2000 nissan sentra runs well on warm up, stalls in

Try to clean the throttle plate with a tooth brush and B-12 chemtool (parts store will have). Engine off / remove air inlet duct, open throttle, spray a little and clean thoroughly.

1987 Nissan Sentra Wont Start (died after going through a puddle)

the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valves like to stick on these cars, they get fouled up with carbon and if they get stuck open, the car will not want to idle well and even stall out. they are vacumn operated and can usually be cleaned with some carb cleaner and small picks. before you clean it, try moving the diaphram up with your fingers and see if it comes back down. this will tell you if its stuck. the EGR manifold port can also become clogged solid and requires removal for cleaning.
