Question about 2002 Volkswagen Passat

2 Answers

VW Dealer says I need an antifreeze flush,a timing belt and Tensioners, and a front motor mount. I am orig.owner with 52,000 miles driven and only dealer has worked on my car. These items will cost over $2,200.00. I am a woman so feel like they could be taken advantage of me with somethings I don't need. Please advise.

Ask them why the timing belt components are being recommended when they are not due until 80,000 miles. If you do not have an owners manual, it would help that you get one because it has your factory maintenance schedule in there as well.
If your motor mount is bad, that just depends upon inspection. If it looks bad and your engine feels like it is bucking then it may need to be replaced. Most shops will try to get $120-$150 for the mount and 1.5 - 2 hours labor.
It would help to shop the local VW dealerships or VW specialty repair shops and see how much each one is charging for the timing belt replacement in the future, as well as your motor mount, in order to have a better idea of the going rate in the area.
Good luck and please let me know if I can further assist you.

Yes you will need these things done. certainly the timing belt. the tensioners and idler pulleys could be left until the next belt change if they feel allright when the belt is removed. If the mount is faulty it should be replaced. I would reccomend getting an estimate of cost from a mechanical shop and not the dealer. The cost does sound quite high.

When do you change the timing belt? Mine has 104,000 miles

It depends on which type of motor you have; if it is an interference motor, it should be changed every 60,000 to 70,000 miles. You can write down your vin # and call the dealer to find out. You may also consider changing the water pump if it's driven by the timing belt, as the belt has to be removed for the changeover.

When should a get the timing belt replaced?

It is critical that you replace the cam belt at 90,000 miles on the 4 cylinder and V6. Both engines are interference engines and as such if the belt breaks serious engine damage will occur. The water pump is also driven by the cam belt so to save labor costs later on have the water pump replaced at the same time you replace the cam belt. Have the cooling system flushed, thermostat replaced, and a fresh supply of a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water installed. You will be good to go for another 90,000 miles.

2000 VW passat timing belt replacement

80 000miles(120 000km) is recomended by the dealer but it's safer at 40 000miles(60 000km) its safer for town driving and cold conditions considering the diffirence between a cambelt change and a replacemnet engine and downtime.

Vw sharan timing belt change?

your getting close to a change, especially if its a belt and not a chain. i know friends that had there belts changed out anywhere from 60k to 90k. Chains can go about twice as long as a belt. i you kept this car up on it servicing and dont abuse it. i"d say it"ll last till at least 70k.

When to replace the timing belt on a 2002 audi a4 1.8T

Audi 4 cylinder engines must have timing belt replaced as soon as 75,00 miles but no later than 105,000 miles. When doing job properly the mechanics should be replacing belt, tensioners, rollers, waterpump, thermostat and gasket. Average price would be around $900-$1200 US dollars.
