Upon starting my truck I hear the sound of rushing air for about 30 seconds then ok; why?


I would say more than likely it the radiator cooling fan. For some reason some vehicles, no matter what temperature, the cooling fan clutch engages which makes the cooling fan run at full speed like there's no fan clutch.

It sort of makes it sound like the engine is revving up but it's simply the sound of the rushing air from the fan clutch making the cooling fan spin at full speed.

Front seal replacement 5.9 cummins


Hi Dale, I'm glad to help! Below is the removal procedure for the front crankshaft seal on your 5.9 cummins engine. Hope this helps and have an awesome day!



REMOVAL

  1. Disconnect both battery negative cables.
  2. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  3. Partially drain engine coolant into container suitable for re-use (Refer to 7 - COOLING - STANDARD PROCEDURE).
  4. Lower vehicle.
  5. Remove radiator upper hose.
  6. Disconnect coolant recovery bottle from radiator filler neck and lift bottle off of fan shroud.
  7. Disconnect windshield washer pump supply hose and electrical connections and lift washer bottle off of fan shroud.
  8. Remove viscous fan/drive assembly. (Refer to 7 - COOLING/ENGINE/RADIATOR FAN - REMOVAL).
  9. Remove cooling fan shroud and fan assembly from the vehicle.
  10. Remove the accessory drive belt (Refer to 7 - COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS - REMOVAL).
  11. Remove the cooling fan support/hub from the front of the engine.
  12. Raise the vehicle on hoist.
  13. Remove the crankshaft damper and speed indicator ring.
  14. Remove power steering pump.
  15. Remove accessory drive belt tensioner.
  16. Remove the gear cover-to-housing bolts and gently pry the cover away from the housing, taking care not to mar the gasket surfaces. Remove crank seal dust shield with cover.
  17. Support the cover on a flat work surface with wooden blocks (Removing Seal from Cover), and using a suitable punch and hammer, drive the old seal out of the cover from the back side of the cover to the front side(Removing Seal from Cover).

extended crank time when cold, poor fuel economy, spark knock, lack of engine power,erratic or high or low idle,cooling fans run all the time.cooling fan fails to turn on, engine over heating. God bless!

Engine overheating quickly


there are 2 or 3 fans up front on all A/C equipped cars.
the fan closed to engine (rad rear) turns on parked and idling
all engines will overheat parked, if the fan goes dead.
so are you saying this fan is dead.?
if it dont overheat moving fast then the cooling system is usually good
and then you stop at a traffic light this fan must turn on.
on cars with 3 fans , some stage up, 2 on if too hot. or all 3 on.
the FSM covers this logic clearly.
in the USA car.
the element has 2 fans (some engine options my differ)
the right fan is for A/C
and left fan is for engine cooling, (im looking at alldata.com to see that)

the fan turns on via a relay that he PCM controls
the PCM see the ECT sensor in the engine go to over say 225F and
it closes the relay, and the fan spins at full speed.

fuse 4 runs this relay, in the fuse box
the relay and fuse are named
radiator fan.

Cooling fan control when driving on X-way and then exiting to a stop light the temp does not show high but with steam coming out from under the hood it must be hot. The fan(s) never come on. At what point...


you can disconnect the fan(s) and run 12 volts directly to the fans to see if they are working...you need to check the following parts: there should be a fuse panel located inside the engine compartment...check the cooling fan fuses, the cooling fan relay, and possibly the cooling fan sensor located on the engine

Fans will not turn on therefore cause vehicle to overheat


cooling fan will not come on until about 230 degrees, if fans still do not work. check the fuses and relay. if ok then run a wire to fan from battery.on fan side connection, run a wire from battery positive to fan connection. run a wire from negative to ground connection.if fan will not come on it is either bad or the coolant temp, sensor is bad. because this sensor send info to pcm from various running conditions. it is very important that this sensor works. it can cause;
  • Extended crank time when the engine is cold
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Spark knock
  • Lack of engine power
  • Erratic and/or high idle
  • Engine cooling fan stays running all the time
  • Engine cooling fan fails to turn on
  • Engine overheating

    The cooling fan on a ford car usually does not have a fuse. The cooling fans are controlled by a relay in the power distribution box inside the engine compartment. The box is usually located near the battery. Your owners manual should have a guide showing you what each relay in the box is for.

    Engine fan doesn't run with or without ac


    Check the cooling fan switch/ cooling fan control. as their job is to monitor temp. of engine, and turn the cooling fan on and off.

    Yes, your cooling fans need to run to cool the engine and to run the A/C. Those 2 fans are beeing used to cool of the engine and the A/C condensor at the same time. The fans actually slow down and speed up depending on how hot the car is running and on A/C beeing turned on and so on. If your fans are not rinnung, check the fuses and fusable links. They are marked on the cover of the fuse box. It sais "cooling fans" chek that. That's inside the car. Under the hood there is abother fuse box with fusable links. Check those also. There is a relay too, but check the fuses first. The relays are pretty booletproof. Do a quick check. Turn the A/C on and see if the fans are running. Let me know what you find.

    Engine temperture runs hot after idling or waiting in traffic for an extended period of time perhaps 10 minutes


    Sounds like your cooling fan may not be kicking on. Start the car in the driveway and just let it run with the hood open. When the engine starts to heat too much, the cooling fan should kick on. If it doesn't, it could be a fuse, a relay, a temperature switch, or the fan clutch itself.
