Question about 2001 Pontiac Bonneville

3 Answers

Had oil changed 3 days ago...oil pressure had been fine until today. I drove about 3 miles and pressure became erratic and pegged high and then pegged low. It did this several times and then went to zero and stayed there. I checked the oil level and it is fine and there is no sign of oil in the coolant and the engine is running fine. Any idea what the problem is?? Is it just a pressure sending device or could it be the oil pump itself?? Thanks!!

Probably just the oil pressure sender, at least that is the first thing I would replace.

If running ok it's not the oil pump , this would cauce your lifters to be raddeling bad, and not running well at all. sounds like your gauge may be tring to go out. good luck to you.

Had a faulty oil pressure sensor. The gauge pegged and wouldn't move. It was replaced three days ago and was working fine. Now today when driving it drops then rises and occasionally the oil light flickers...

You really need to check it with a oil pressure gauge. It would be a good idea to change the part again,it could be at fault even though it is new, cause it is having a different symptom .

Speedometer drifts offscale high to pegged out...disconnect/reconnected battery and then works fine for about two days.

Your speed sensor is going, or already gone. I had that same problem with my Dodge Ram 1500

Check your oil level, you could have a leek, check everywhere also, check for blue tint in exaust.

1995 Mitsubishi Diamante is overheating. Oil pressure light came on - oil was low 2 quarts. Added oil, drove down the street, temp gauge went to Hot. Let car cool down. Drove home, check engine light came...

something is strange here thats for sure ,firstly take thermostat out and put it in a saucepan of water and boil it to see if opens .,check the oil light switch and pull the rubber boot cover back to see if any oil is behind it ??.-You are buying trouble with a car with such a high mileage on it ,never buy anything with more than 50,000 miles or you are just buying someones rubbish

most likely u just have a defective oil pressure gauge sending unit on the engine, this is common on all GM cars and trucks., fairly cheap to replace.

Oil sensor

The oil you took out was probably a lighter weight. A heavier oil will show a higher oil pressure. Make sure you are using the proper weight for the temperature conditions in your part of the country.
