overdrive is the fourth gear.D1,D2,D3,D4 now drive truck at 80 kmh
cruise at steady speed no fuel pedal movement, downshift from D4 to D3 you should feel RPM raise .. after push brake pedal a little you should see RPM raise 300 to 400 rpm.
shift pattern is 1st gear ,second gear,3rd gear and lock up(torque converter clutch). 4th gear with lock up

No not at all, i fact it is quiet handy and should be used in ost driving situations. o/d stands for overdrive. When you select this mode the transmission goes into overdrive. Someing up in a sentance, the engine is required to do less revolutions to turn the rear wheels through different ratio's. Most times overdrive wont kick in until around 45mph. Use this function at all times and you will get better fuel economy and put less strain on the engine. Turn it off when towing or approaching a big hill!

The shifting, including that of the overdrive is computer controlled. It's even possible that the tow/haul feature has been activated through short, or such. The tow/haul function deactivates the overdrive, and raises the pump pressure in the transmission, causing it to shift harder and at different points. You might want to look into these.

Boy O Boy, Don't throw that old trans away, It is most likely OK. Did you change the filter and fluid. A bad speed sensor or a bad torque converter lock-up solenoid will result in a loss of overdrive function. Perform an OBDII scan of the stored faults And look for Speed sensor and lock-up solenoid faults. Watch out for those shops, they will skin you.

Test the transmission module. It controls everything the transmission does, the timing of shift points, gear selection, overdrive, etc

you need to try a tranny flush and put lucas in it afterwards if that doesnt work you probably have major internal failure
