I would definately take it back to the dealer and tell them they have not fixed the problem. The Dealer will hook the car up to the ODB II tester to get the codes from your cars computer as to what the computer thinks the problem is. Typically there is more than one oxygen sensor on the exahust system and the dealer ship may have replaced one and need to replace both - or they may have replaced one that was not faulty.

IF the check engine light went out when you left the dealer it is likely because they disconnected the battery when they worked on the car. The computer will then check a problem that shows up several times before lighting the check engine light (typically three cycles I believe - i.e. at least three consecutive starts and stops where the computer sees the same problem) so seeing the light out when it leaves the dealership does not mean they have fixed it, it merely means they have disconnected the battery. You should be well within your rights to go back and tell them they have not solved the problem and your not paying additional money for replacements of parts that didn't fix the problem.

As a check you should also take the car to a local Autozone (Car parts shop) and ask them to check the codes using the ODB II meter. At least then you can go to the dealer with the knowledge of what the computer code is and sound more knowledgable and less likely to be ripped off for poor workmanship.

I have codes 174 171 cant fix

these codes refer to the oxygen sensors. PO171 is bank 1 sensor 1 and PO174 is bank 2 sensor 1 detecting too lean a condition. these are what the shops check, check the sensor for switching properly and not stuck in one direction or the other. then check MAF sensor operation and that the hot wire in the sensor is clean and not dirty, it can be cleaned with intake cleaner and gently brushing any dirt off it. if this is good then check fuel supply like pressure/volume, injector function, dirty injectors, vacuum leaks. just some places to start. if you have no or very little knowledge of car repair then go to a shop to get it fixed instead of just throwing unneeded parts at it as it could cost you more.

Hi, no, they are not related. The oxygen sensor(s) are part of the ignition/emissions sytem and help regulate fuel flow/mixture. The A/C system is self contained and does not affect other engine systems. Mike

My engine check light is on, what does it mean?...

mcdevito75 here, It means that your cars engine may not be burning gasoline in the manner set by the factory, usually an auto repair shop will run a scan on the engines computer to make sure all the engines sensors are recieveing and giveing the correct info to efficiently burn gas in the engine, at time s the check engine lite comes on to warn you of something wrong, either sensors, or a part. Have you car checked out if that check engine lite is on.

Code p0420 appears what does it mean engine lite came on

P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

What does that mean? The catalytic converter has an oxygen sensor in front and behind it. When the vehicle is warm and running in closed loop mode, the upstream oxygen sensor waveform reading should fluctuate. The downstream O2 sensor reading should be fairly steady. Typically the P0420 code triggers the Check Engine Light if the readings of the two sensors are similar. This is indicative of (among other things) a converter that is not working as efficiently as it should be (according to specs). It is part of the vehicle emissions system.

Symptoms You will likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms.
Causes A code P0420 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Leaded fuel was used where unleaded was called for
  • An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
  • The engine coolant temperature sensor is not working properly
  • Damaged or leaking exhaust manifold / catalytic converter / exhaust pipe
  • Retarded spark timing
  • The oxygen sensors in front and behind the converter are reporting too similar of readings
Possible Solutions Need a catalytic converter? Visit our catalytic converter shopping area for the lowest price on your replacement converter!
Some suggested steps for troubleshooting a P0420 error code include:
  • Check for exhaust leaks at the manifold, pipes, catalytic converter. Repair as required.
  • Use a scope to diagnose the oxygen sensor operation (Tip: The oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic converter normally has a fluctuating waveform. The waveform of the sensor behind the converter should be more steady).
  • Inspect the downstream heated oxygen sensor (HO2), replace if necessary
  • Replace the catalytic converter
One thing to note is that many vehicle manufacturers offer a longer warranty on emissions-related parts. So if you have a newer car but it's out of it's bumper-to-bumper warranty, there still may be warranty on this type of problem. Many manufacturers give a five year, unlimited mileage warranty on these items. It's worth checking into.

What is code p1133 and the battery light is on

P1133 is the code that tells you that your HO2S (Heated oxygen sensor) is not performing correctly. This can mean that sensor has failed to function correctly at least twice in a row and so the computer will store the data that occured the first time it failed and turn on the Check engine lite. Most likely you need a new Heated oxygen sensor.

Replace the Airflow Meter, then take off all those parts you put on. If you have a scan tool, the long term fuel trim is probably %25+Which is definately an airflow meter, but it's definately worth trying it anyway, they've had such a problem w/ them you can get one for under $100 easy.
