If you are standing at the front bumper of your car, looking at your distributor cap, the 8o'clock position would be for cyl1. The order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 and it goes clock wise starting from where I told you cyl1 is on the cap.
On the engine, cyl1 is nearest to the radiator and cyl6 is nearest the firewall and

1996 jeep grand cherokee won't start after raining? Had it jumped a couple of times, now it won't start at all.

Moisture allows for spark to leak out more easily if the plug wires are bad. Also make sure plugs are good. If one has more soot, that is the most suspect. Could be distributor caps or rotor back then also.

I just changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap on my 1996 jeep grand cherokee limited, the firing order is correct, but my engine is misfiring&the codes that come up on my computer/scanner reads misfire...

I would manually set it up to top dead center. (Rotate the engine by using a breaker bar and socket on the crankshaft pully bolt the same direction as it runs) with the front cylinder, #1, assuming you have a 4.0 liter straight six, spark plug out. Put your finger in the spark plug hole, and as the engine is turned by hand, you will feel "air pressure." This is coming up onto the compression stroke. With the piston at top, you are at top dead center. (Zero aligned for timing marks) Now remove the distributor cap, your rotor should be pointing at the stud for the number one plug wire.
Turning it will then move the rotor to the next plug to be fired.

301 & 306 are cylinder #1 and #6 misfire. Your spark plug wires are not in the proper firing order in relation to the correct cylinder and distributor locations.

My 1996 grang cherokee jeep 4.0L keeps skipping after changed plugs, wires, and distributor cap. Will i need a new ignition coil?

how about a bad injector. unplug one at a time to see which one is not spraying. otherwise do a compession test on each cylinder.

Spark plug wire position on distributor cap

1-5-3-6-2-4
ALL Jeep 4.0 motors use this firing order. Any year, any model, high output or not.

Also, the spark plug wire placement on the cap, in a clockwise direction from the post nearest the engine block is: 6-2-4-1-5-3.(to the left side of the number 6 post, there should be a hold downscrew or strap for fastening the distributor cap to the distributor.
