Question about Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

P0446 code came up. Car runs fine. I will tell you that filling it with gas is a major pain. Cant get more than about $6 to $7 dollars in gas before the fill tube fills up and makes the gas pump click off. From there it is a a slow process to get the tank full. Would the code cause this problem and would it affect gas mileage??

Hello: This code indicates a problem with the evap system vent valve. A stuck closed vent valve will affect the fueling, if air can,t get out of the tank while fueling you will have a hard time filling the tank. You didn't say what year/model you have so the valve may be near the fuel tank or inside the tank. This problem should not affect fuel mileage.

The vent valve should be near the gas tank it will have an electrical connector and hose. It is about 4 X 5 inches, about an inch thick, not a very hard job to d

Code po446 what is it

Its what is called the EVAP. system the code is for the vent solenoid .Gas vapor in a vacuum is drawn from the fuel tank when this vent is commanded to be open drawn into a canister filled charcoal and stored until the canister purge solenoid is commanded to open .
This happens when the engine speed is at a higher RPM level and is supposed to send the vapor to the engine to be burned instead of VOC'S going into the atmosphere .But its a crazy lie the last time I filled up more VOCS got into the atmosphere then a gas tank vent could do in 6 month or so .
You can try cleaning the filter in the vent solenoid it might work but the part is about 70 dollars its in the rear between the tank and the canister look for hoses .

What would cause p0441, p0442, p0446, p0455 to come in on Toyota Rav4

Hello, these are evap codes , ask yourself couple if questions , what did I do different from all time driving , did I fill the car up while the car is running ? Did i tie the gas cap properly? If you checked all these and you know for sure that these two things are ok and you didn't fill gas while the car is running , then you might have an evap leak , most likely would be best to take it to your local shop and they will use a smoke machine to locate the leak, but I would change gas cap first and disconnect the battery to reset the codes and see if they come back , oif they didn't come back , then you are ok and you have nothing to worry about . Hope this help . Gas cap cost less then 10 box at your local auto parts store .

Check engine light with p0446 code

P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction Evap vent valve has only one purpose. It closes in order to seal the vent so the EVAP system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evap vent valve is usually supplied Batt. voltage with key on. The ECM's driver controls the ground, and when grounded, activates the valve (closing it). If the ECM detects a short to ground, and open,or a short to battery voltage on the control circuit, P0446 will set. Code also may refer to ECM detecting that EVAP system is unable to achieve or maintain vacuum during test.
SymptomsThere will be no obvious symptoms to driver, other than MIL illumination.
CausesA code P0446 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty vent valve
  • Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
  • Blockage of vent valve
  • Bad PCM
Possible SolutionsWith a P0446 OBD-II trouble code, here are some things to try:
  • Replace Vent valve
  • Repair open, short, or resistance problem in control circuit
  • Repair open, or short, or resistance problem in power circuit
  • Replace PCM

2007 Chevy Colbalt 2.2 engine P0446 Code is on. what does it mean and how much does it cost to fix

Code P0446 is related to your vehicles evaporative emissions system. Often this is caused by your gas cap not being properly tightened.

Before running out and spending money on this issue be sure the gas cap is in good condition and make sure it's tight. (At least 2 or 3 turns after it begins to click)

Drive the car for a few days. If the check engine light doesn't turn off you will need to go to a repair shop who can scan and troubleshoot the problem.

Good luck.

I like to now how to fix the code 0446 on kia optima 2001 2.4l engine. thanks

P0446 - Vent Control of the Evap System. This Evaporative Emissions System is very complicated. These particular DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) can be caused by MORE than they tell you. Three MAJOR components in the system can cause this P0446. 1. Charcoal Canister, 2. Charcoal Canister Filter, 3. Canister Close Valve, 4. Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor, 5. Purge Control Solenoid Valve, 6, Wiring and/or connector/connections between them and the ECU. If you wish to trust the computer's diagnostics, then replace the canister close valve (after you have inspected the Evap Charcoal Canister's air filter and find no problems with restrictions of air flow). If the problem comes back, check the Purge Control Solenoid Valve and the operation of the Fuel Tank Pressure sensor - either one of those components, if malfunctioning, can cause a P0446.
