I just replaced the alternator and the serpentine belt and now the engine runs like ****. It turns over for a second or two and the dies.

almost sound like you have too much voltage if the batter is fully charged prior to starting. may have got a bad alternator or you a have a bad regulator.

Engine only runs at idle

If it's a Chrysler/Dodge product, disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes and re connect it. Try starting, be sure the battery has a FULL charge when you do.

2004 ford escape 3.0 six wont start sometimes after driveing and shuting off

Won't start how ? When your the key to the start position what happens ? The engine spins but won't start an run . this a crank no start condition . If nothing happens when you turn the key to start ,this is a no crank no start condition . Need to be clear on this so we know what to have check . If nothing happens when turning the key to start position ,try moving gear selector to neutral - park neutral safety switch . If when you turn the key to start an the engine does spin but doesn't start an run ,check for spark ,fuel pressure . see what's missing .

A 2005 ford f250 with appox 80 thousand miles. Most times when u crank truck it will start up run but has no acceleration. I can shut engine off and restart and it will be fine. A few times when it starts...

Have you checked your fuel pump? Or the filter, I had a 04 , where the filter would clog and make it run bad, i would shut it off and the pressure would release and move whatever was there, I would then run fine for a while and repeat again. I changed the filter and it was fine. I also had a chevy with a bad fuel pump that would work great most of the time but not so great other times? Replaced it and solved the problem!

89 Ford F150 shuts off when put in gear.

After sitting 2 years, there must have been some fuel in tank that has probably gone real bad (like shellac) and contaminated the fuel system, plugged up filter etc. Usually rust will form in tank, mixed with stale fuel, it will turn just like mud.
