Question about 2003 Toyota Sequoia

1 Answer

Fuel guage not working properly. It will show full when you first fill up but once you get down to almost 3/4 tank it will drop, or not go back to the proper level when restarted. Checked the gas cap and it is tightened properly.

Your flote is sticking in your tank not letting it go down below a certain level, Repair this by replacing the flote in your tank, good luck hope this helps.

2004 pt cruiser gas guage showing incorrect reading

There is a trick to reset all of the gauges in your PT Cruiser. There are three simple steps to reset them.
Step 1. Hold down the "Trip" button
Step 2. While holding onto the Trip button, turn the key and start the car. (This should make all the gauges and numbers reset and run a test)
Step 3. Release the trip button and the fuel gauge should work properly.
If not, there might be a problem with your fuel pump.

Fuel guage always shows empty

It sounds as if the fuel tank sending unit is faulty. This is a small float connected to a variable resistor on the fuel pump/sending unit assembly. Unfortunately this assembly is fairly expensive (over $300) and the fuel tank may need to be removed to replace it.

Fuel gauage not reading on 2005 kia sedona

the fuel sender in the tank is probably the problem, they do wear out quick on KIA some models.

Just filled the gas tank in my 2006 f-350 turbo diesel super duty (6.0), started the truck and the guage showed a full tank. Drove down the road about 1/10 of a mile and the guage dropped to dead empty...

A loose connection on the sending unit could cause the problem but also moisture in the tank in cold weather could also be a factor in which i would add fuel line antifreeze to a full tank of fuel..........Hope this helps you out.

My fuel guage got below a half tank at about 3/8

1999 fuel pumps are located within the gas tank on this model and use a float assembly to send fuel levels to the dash gauge. This is why you may notice that parked on a hill or with sudden stops you car shows a little more or less fuel and then settles. It shouldnt go up and down as drastic as you describe so that makes me feel that the sending unit on the fuel pump is going bad. It looks like a half circle of contacts and as the float arm goes up each contact causes a different reading.. think clock face and clock hands. Watch it carefully now that you have filled it up and note when it gets to same range you were in before. If you see same problem it could be a failure.. if not then its possible a piece of debrs wash causing an intermittent failure. Unfortunately on these models the fuel pump and replacemetn is a lengthy process. You must drain the tank, remove it from vehicle and remove pump. insert new one and then do a pressure check at engine block as these new pumps have to maintain about 90PSI pressure to the fuel delivery system. Its not a weekend DIY fix to do this repair and if you see the issue its best to leave this job to a dealer or reputable service facility.

I have a 2000 mustang and my fuel guage works fine. But 7 gallons fills it up from empty. As I drive the guage travels from full to empty just like it should. I do not have any dents in my tank.

I do not think you have any dents in your tank, nor do I think its empty when the guage indicates that it is.

It is more then likely a fuel level sending unit which is located inside of the tank. They are not fun to replace, empty the gas, drop the tank, and then replace the sensor.

Gas guage-oxygen sensor?

The oxygen sensor has nothing to do with the fuel gauge. There are two possibilities for the gas gauge error, first it could be the in-tank gas level sensor or it could be a defective stepper motor which drives the gauge. A professional scan tool can determine the fuel level being sent by the in-tank sensor, if that disagrees with the gauge, then the stepper motor needs replacing.

2002 Grand Prix Sending Unit

the fuel sending unit is located on the top of the fuel tank, On the grand prix you will have to drop the tank down (remove the tank straps) and the remove the ring that holds the unit in and then you can just pull the unit right out of the tank. You then place the new unit in and the installation is the reverse of removal

Gas Gauge not reading correctly

The most likely culprit is the sending unit in the tank. They are relatively easy to change, as long as you don't have much fuel in the tank. It's a mechanical unit that has a float that raises and lowers with the fuel level, however with age, the floats can develop leaks and no longer float, of the electronic portion of the unit can go bad and not register the proper level. They are replaced and an entire unit, so it doesn't matter which happened, you will need to change the fuel tank sending unit.

This is not a calibration issue, the sender in the fuel tank is the problem, this is a common symtom for senders when they fail
