A P0304 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #4.-------- Symptoms may include:--------

  • the engine may be harder to start.
  • the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate.
  • other symptoms may also be present.
--------------- A code P0304 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty spark plug or wire
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Running out of fuel
  • Poor compression
  • Defective computer.
  • ---------------------
If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.-----------------
This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

For everyone with a misfire on number Four, The cruiser with an aluminum intake had a bad gaske on the lower intake. The make an improved gasket for it now. All that stuff that they tell you to fix will do nothing to help you. I spend 2000 dollars fixing stuff I didnt have to when it only needed a lower intake gasket. If I was anyone with a misfire on number four this is where I would start if you have the aluminu intake. This is supposed to be a natorious problem with this model. Dont waste your time on your money fixing all that other stuff

My parents car is doing this. I did a tune up (plugs and wires) and it still continued. I looked up a wiring diagram and the coil pack has 2 sides 1/2 and 3/4. If it's throwing a po304 the 3/4 side could be bad on the coil. That's what was happening in my parents car. Other than that you could have bad injectors or even a bad fuel pump.

SOURCE: 2000 CIVIC System too lean Cylinder 3 and 4 misfire Deteced

  1. P0171: This means that the oxygen sensor has detected a lean air-fuel ratio. This can be caused due to a vaccuum leak or a problem in the HO2S circuit or the HO2S (Heated Oxygen Sensor) itself. (Bank one Sensor one). This is commonly located along the exhaust pipe. It could also be a bad Mass Air Flow sensor or a bad Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. Diagnostic checks will be needed to be carried out to be verified though
  2. Well as for the other codes, it means #3&4 cylinders are misfiring. It is a possibility that the P0171 code mite have caused the others to show up. I can be wrong though. But it is a strong possibility. If the air fuel mixtue is too lean indeed, mis-firing will occur, unless it is an actual electronic and not a mechnical problem. By the way, when these codes appear, how is the engine's performance. Does it remain the same or behaves poorly?

I have a 1996 crown vic i need to know these touble codes po305 po304

P0304 means that cylinder 4 has a misfire and P0305 is a cylinder 5 misfire. What this means is you may have bad spark plugs, or bad plug wires, or you may need to replace your distributor cap and rotor. I would start with plugs and wires.

Engine light just came on took to auto zone they gave me this code PO304 Trying to see what it is

A P0304 OBD2 code is "cylinder #4 misfire detected". The first place to start is your spark plugs. 1. Check condition and for wear. 2. check the spark plug wires or coil packs(depending on which you have).
