Question about 1999 Ford Super Duty F 450

2 Answers

Hi. I have a 1999 Ford F-450 Diesel. The truck runs fine after resting overnight or for a few hours. It does not overheat. It drives for about 5-10 miles then starts to idle only and eventually dies out. It'll take an hour or so before it'll run fine again. If I can't wait that long, I can purge the fuel, and the truck would run proper for another 5-10 miles. Do you have a solution to this?

I released air from the fuel pressure.

Hi , when i release air from the fuel line (located at the fuel filter) the diesel comes out whitish color.
Is this due to a mixture of water or could it be any other type of liquid mixture?
    Thanks

The truck is equipped with an electric fuel transfer pump, it is mounted just in front of the fuel tank on the frame rail, you need to make sure this pump is still running when the truck stalls, if it is then you have some thing wrong with the injection pump, this pump relies on engine oil pressure in order to open the injectors, so if the engine is low on oil or has low oil pressure it will cause the injection pump to stop sending fuel to the injectors. in any case this system has nothing that can be done to it with out allot of special tools, i recommend you see a diesel injection pump shop.

most likly is water in your fuel, you need to pull a fuel sample in a glass container and let it set over night and see if it seprates, if it does drain the tank and start with fresh fuel.

oil drains to pan then takes a few seconds to refill filter upon starting.
It takes a few hours to bleed down like overnight.

1999 Ford F-250 Diesel 7.3L was running now not

hi,

we had an e-450 bus, same thing but absolutely no working room at all. it has two fuel filters one under the driver off frame and one on top of the engine, try those. if that dont get it then it should go to a diesel mechanic or get a special diesel code reader.

Hi, I got two problems first is when the car idles or stops and stop lights for a period of time the car starts to over heat but when your going down the highway or just any street as long as the car is...

here are a few things to check, coolant level low, drivebelt defective, radiator could be blocked, faulty thermostat, electric cooling fans not working which makes the engine overheat, when going a certain speed it is air cooled, but when you stop it will overheat.

Replace the glowplug relay. Its faulty. The glow plugs stay on until engine warms up.The engine temp switch then activates the relay to switch off.So it could be the temp switch also faulty.

It is most likely fuel heater in bottom of filter housing. Unplug it on backside of housing and reinstall good fuse and see if it quits blowing. If so, updated fuel heater availible through Ford.
