This is an interesting one. Where is the transmission fluid leaking from? If it is coming out of the transmission where it meets the engine, then you are looking at replacing the front transmission seal, and to do this you will need to pull the transmission. If it is not leaking at this spot, then you are looking at a line leak, and will need to replace the bad line. There are going to be two lines for the transmission, make sure that yoyu inspect each one of them thoroughly/ They are the usual culprit when a transmission starts to leak.

This sounds like the trany is overheating, you will need to have the cooler and lines checked, make sure the trany lines going to the radiator are not kinked and are not bypassed from the radiator, a good idea may be to install an aftermarket cooler for the trany, this will bypass the cooler in the radiator, this is a small radiator type cooler and the trany line are connected to the cooler and cooler is then mounted in front of the car in front of the ac condensor and will help keep trany oil from overheating, good day.

We have had to add transmission fluid twice to our vehicle in the past 3 months-no visible leaking-but we are under the impression it must be b.c where did it go?

Check were the engine and transmission meet to see if you have a coating of tranny fluid there. Also check just rear of the tranny, under the car, to see if you have any fluid there. If it is only leaking while driving, then it would blow all over the underside of the car. The only other place it could be going is into the engine coolant since the radiator also houses the tranny cooler. Take a look at your engine coolant to make sure it isn't mixing.

A circle with a explanation point on the inside start blinking then the next day it start leaking transmission fluid real bad

you have a blown front seal in the tranny refill with fluid and drive a short distance and monitor the light and check under car for puddle if no puddle and no light then i would service the tranny (replace filter fluid and gasket cheap fix ) if still leaking and light still on you can have it repaired or replaced

Tranny fluid leaking from my 97 mercury sable. "I located it coming from a silver box located directly underneath battery. What is the name of this part?

don't know what the silver box is, but its probably the transmission cooler line going from tranny to radiator. should be 2 silver lines coming from radiator. follow them

Check engine light on, failed smog due to leak in tranny 98 sable

Your modulator valve on the outside rear of the tranny may be leaking tranny fluid into the vacuum line and it it is being burnt and exhausted by the engine. The valve has a thin diaphram within and over a period of time it can leak the fluid into the line. This must be replaced before it becomes a situation where the tranny will not shift out of low gear. Thank you, Dana

Hello, I bought 1997 merc sable wagon with 125000

Rebuilding the transmission. That's quite a few miles on your transmission and the seals are finally letting go.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad (and expensive) news,

How do I drain transmission fluid (2000 sable ls(dohc))?

On an automatic tranny, the tranny oil pan is removed to drain the tranny fluid - a somewhat messy job. Typically when this done the tranny filler is replaced. A new pan gasket is installed in this procedure.
On the manual tranny, there is a drain plug at the bottom side of the tranny to drain the oil.
I have used a home made setup using a suction pump with small diameter tubing to **** the fluid out from the tranny filler tube. This is when I was replacing the filter and I dropped the pan. I did the suction routine to avoid all that fluid dripping out when you loosen the pan.
Have you located the leak? Is it from the tranny oil pan or maybe from a tranny cooler line?
