From what you have described either the replacement alternator or regulator are faulty.all 1985 model here have the reg built into the alternator.Put a voltmeter across the battery terminals while running.volts should be 14 to 14.8 if it is being charged correctly,12.8-13.9 if it is poorly charging and less if it is only running on the battery.I assume that the fanbelt is tight and not slipping. There are several other reasons that can cause this fault but establish the basics first.Make sure that the main feed wire from the alternator to the battery is fitted onto clean terminal and isnt broken internally. To test this you can carefully check volts at the alternator terminal end,be careful not to arc out on anything metal while doing this.you may blow the charging fuse(check this anyway as part of test).the volts should be the same as reading from the battery. If it is lower, twist the wire about while reading and see if it changes. It will either need replacing if faulty or try new terminal ends first.Make sure that the replacement alt has the same plug configuration as the one you removed.Honda have a few different plugs that switch the trigger wire around(whether round or rectangular)Hope this helps you.if not get back with your test results and we can work together on this

Yes the big wire with a round terminal should be a main feed so that the alternator can charge the battery,The plug if it only has a couple of small wire it in are for signaling charge via the battery light on your dash. This large wire should have sparked if you were trying to earth it.Some of these do have an earth wire but you can usually trace the other end to earth. the power feed stud on the alternator has a black insulator around it to avoid shorting on casing.
If you have the 3 wire plug, yes the heavier wire should be the feed to the battery,This can be probed with a test light to confirm. It should be live all the time. The diodes in the alternator stop the power draining to earth.Report your findings,we will get this beat soon!

Make sure that your battery terminals are clean, tight and on the right posts. And the battery earth is secure to body and engine.

I have a 1985 Honda prelude carberated an the battery light won't go out I bought a brand new altenator an battery but when I rev it past 3000rpm it goes out an it seems to be running off the battery I can...

The alternator is not charging, even if it's new, you probably have a fuse that is blown. Look in the fuse panel under the hood where the big fusible link style fuses are held. I think you'll find that one of the larger fuses in this panel is bad. They are hard to see sometimes, a multimeter may be needed to check them.

1985 Honda Prelude replaced alternator and regulator trouble shooting wires, battery light still comes on

I had an 84 Prelude with a similar problem. I will assume that the car runs just fine as though there is nothing wrong but has the light on. When this happened to me it was just a bad diode in the alternator. If the battery takes a load fine and shows good charge then take off the alternator, take it back to autozone or wherever you bought it and have them test it. I would bet there is a diode bad and they will give you a replacement. Good luck!

I have a 1999 escort that the battery light is blinking when you rev the engine...all parts check ok, it only does it when you rev it fast , regular driving and easy take off it does not blink

Put a volt meter on the battery, and rev the engine until the light blinks, do not hold it there, just reach that engine speed breifly, watch the meter, does the voltage increase or decrease? If it does then your voltage regulator may be going bad, the regulator is inside the altenator, which may require replacement. It can be related to a wire that is broken or partially broken, so wiggle the wires at the altenator and battery while the engine is running at idle and conducting this test. Hope this helps, let me know

1992 prelude si - battery/alternator prob?

if you can charge the battery and drive it for a while then sounds like the altenator has failed and is not re-charging the battery, good way to test is to charge the battery, start the car and turn the light on, if everything is dimm or the motor dies there is little to no charge voltage, and will require altenator work

here is the deal you use carb cleaner evrything yo spray into it will run it threw the engine and if you get caburator cleaner get berry-mans chemtool it's the best spray cleaner and spray it while car is running but you v8 sound is more likey a plugged catalitic coverter or a bad muffler or exhausr pipe.

My honda prelude stalled an now the stater is makins a funny nois and the moter wont turn over wat do i do

sounds like you have a dead battery and possible a bad altenator have the battery checked out and replace if bad. If not recharge and if the car starts have the charging system checked out you may have a bad altenator or voltage regulator probably built in the altenator. Possibly the starter but not likely since it stalled while running.

Sounds like a bad starter or teeth missing of the flexplate or flywheel. Is it a stickshift? Can you push start it?
