Just because it moves doesnt mean it is not the trany, you will need to pin point the noise, a common problem is the crankshaft pulley, this sound it makes when the pulley goes bad sounds like a bad motor or trany. check this by removing the belt, locate the belt tensioner and pull to release the tension off the belt. make a diagram of how the blet goes on the pulleys so you can reinstall it correctly. after you remove the belt grab the crank pulley and see if it moves, if it turns back and fourth a little, like 2 inch each way then the pulley is bad, also check the rest of the pulleys by spinning them and checking for a noise. with the belt off start the engine and see if the noise is still there, with out the belt there should be little or no noise then this would mean the pulley is the problem but if the noise is the same then move on to the engine, you will need to listen closely, it may be a bad engine bearing or even a flywheel, this noise may be hard for you to find, even a tech would take time to find out the noise, i think you should stop at a shop to have them listen to it just so you dont mis diagnose the noise, this may be many things and if its somthing you are not sure of then a shop should listen to it, its hard to tell you whats wrong without me hearing this noise. good luck and good day.

1994 Buick LeSabre has clicking noise in steering column when reversing.

Could it be coming from the dash??? That car might be old enough to have a speedo cable. Another thought, I know some Caddys that had an automatic park brake release. You had to put it in gear for the Park brake to release. Hope that helps.

I have a 2004 Buick Park Avenue Ultra that has a knock in the engine when the trans is in gear. Knock goes away when trans is in neutral. What so you think? I am scheduled to take the care to dealer in...

Its kinda hard the say from what you have said but it could be whats called a u joint there is one on each end of the drive shaft they allow the drive shaft to move with the suspension but if the vehicle was in gear you could hear a knocking or cluncking noise because its hooked derrictly to the transmission

Whining from engine when in gear

Just a thought- remove the oil filler cap when the whine is present - (this checks if PCV valve is faulty, causing high crankcase vacuum, which in turn causes a whistling/whine noise as air leaks past engine oil seals). Worth a check.

Try listening with a short piece of hose pipe to locate immediate area/source of noise.
