I would definitely try the distributer cap and rotor button. It's about a 15 minute job and might solve your problem. As the car warms up the electrical components of course heat up too. As the heat goes up, resistance also increases in electrical connections, wires, etc. You could be getting enough current to pass between the rotor and the poles at low temps but, as they heat up, sufficient current for a good spark is not being passed along.

Locate timing belt and water pump on a 94 geo prism

old post,
the prizm is a toyota.
they had 3 engines.
see this page, for links to all you need to know.

your engine sides sideways. FWD car.
this fact makes service hard. unlike RWD cars. and trucks.
the crank pulley and pump are on the right side (drivers perceptive)
seen left, facing engine bay.
http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/3/1934/1881/29833440036_large.jpg?v=0

see the top of engine, that is the valve cover
look to the left
see that wider part, that is the cam cog and belt side.

what you really need are all the instructions on how to do this
and not mess it up;.
the steps are covered, fully
at
alldata.com
just log in , and read engine chapter under timing belt service.
its like 50 steps.

see links and facts above.
the first step is to find out what engine is in your car.
4A or 7A

I have a 96 geo prizm and it cuts out and jerks at acceleration and wont pull a hill and stalls at lights

I would start with a tune up-fuel filter, spark plugs, fuel injector cleaner, air cleaner-then if your still doing the hurky jerky you may try replacing the fuel pump-Denny

the belt fall off, open hood, gander. and bingo. belt loose or missing.
there can be 2 belts. if the water pump belt is bad the engine burns up. replace all belts there, using GY gator belts for max life.
or Gates belts.

How do i replace a water pump on 1990 geo prizm

get the manual
this is non trivial and no one will type out 10 pages here.
sorry.
go to alldata dot com and look up your car, like we all do,
each car and years have different ways.
and on FWD cars, it can be a small horror.

id never own one. i run jeeps. easy to fix. and parts cheap and profuse.

My 1990 geo prizm will turn over but won't start. I replaced the fuel pump but that didn't solve the problem. Help!!!

Being you replaced the fuel pump and that had no effect I would now check if you have spark if theres no spark check your distributor or coil packs if you have coil packs check the crankshaft position sensor that sensor if its bad could cause a no spark condition...

1984 Geo Prizm run but drumping to too much gas

Might be anything but first I will inspect and replace the air filter. Other reason might be a lover compression test result. If it is 70 psi, then engine hesitates, but some people continue to drive and when it goes down to 60 psi the engine refuses to run .
One more reason might be ignition timing and the strength of spark. The distributor, wires and spark plugs have to be inspected, and replaced if necessary.
Finally another reason might be valve timing. This is related with the timing belt. If this is replaced please disregard this. I had a 90 ties Geo Prizm, and was making an average 30 miles per gallon.
Gradually dropped at 26 mile per gallon. I replaced the timing belt and a I got again 30 miles per gallon.
If your car will be sent in our car repair shop, these will be the first tests we will perform, to find the problem. Geo Prizm is a nice car, and very easy to take care with. If you will check this points by yourself, then you can save money and hope solve your problem.

1995 geo prizm lsi starting problems.

There is a long list of possible causes, You would have to check into each individual one.

1.) Failing fuel pump.
2.) Bad valve seat/seal
3.) Sticking valve
4.) Timing is off, Reset timing to 10* BTDC
5.) Clogged fuel injector(s)
6.) Your new ignition coil (as im assuming thats what you meant by "Igniter") may be faulty.
7.) Wiring to the new ignition coil may be faulty
8.) Spark plug wires not firmly in place.
9.) Faulty Distributor pickup coil and/or wiring harness/wiring.

The list goes on and on, Some are more likely then others. Personally, from experience (having owned 4 95 geo prizms myself in my lifetime) i would go with the clogged injectors, Fuel pump, and distributor pickup/wiring in that order. Those engines last quite a long time when properly cared for, An internal engine problem (Although possible) is unlikely in my opinion.
