Question about 2002 Jeep Liberty

Jeep 2002 liberty 3.7 L, The jeep winds excessively prior to starting, but always starts, I have changed the crank sensor, and fuel pump as well as several tune ups, One mechanic seems to think it is a fuel rail problem, the dealer charged me $200.00 and did nothing. This problem seemed to start after i high pressure washed the engine compartment. Now the code reader is giving codes po 500, and 304

You are not alone with issue and when i first come across it i thought it was anything and everything the 500 code is a speed sensor so this wouldnt stop vehicle from starting ,but i have come across this problem quite a bit now with this vehicle brand and trust me i have tried it all and the only thing i have managed to come up with is a ECU/immobilisor fault and to cure it i cannot even think of a answer ,the fault goes like this you crank engine for a second then again and the thrid time is starts perfectly ,now most of the vehicles i see are manual diesels and these do not suffer but the straight 6 engine with autobox are the main culprits ,when i check them out with my automotive multi meter i have no power to coil and no power to fuel pump or injectors ,its as if the whole lot is dead -So when i get another one thats for scrap ,yes they get lost or scrapped at regular intervals here because the price of petrol at 7 euros plus a gallon ,Well i take one of the ECUs off and have a play at bypassing the immobilisor and see if this cures it which i think it will but ?? at the moment i just do not know till i can get my hands on a runner and play

00.6v at the fuel pump

are you reading the meter right ?, less that 1 volt?
did you crank the engine and read,many car dont start the pump unit cranked.
it must be 12v or 11v if very cold and bettery volts sag a bit (1v) cranking. that is how you do this.
on some jeeps (i dont do liberty) the ASD works like this.
the 2 second rule.
TAKES 2 people to test a JEEP.
not 1.
one to crank and one to measure.
the PCM allows 2 seconds. of full spark and injections
if it sees errors,. it kills every thing, spark and fuel.

Most common causes of that kind of problem are the fuel pump and the crank sensor. Crank sensor should set a code, pump won't. Less frequent but worth mentioning is the ignition switch. Do some testing using a haynes or chilton manual as a guide,. All you need for that is a digital multi-meter.
Before testing anything, check that all the ground points under the hood are clean and secure. there are more than just the battery to the block...check all the smaller ones as well.

Jeep liberty 2002 will not idle when you first start it if you make it run at about 2000 rpm for about 3 min it will stay running

Check temperature sensor. I don't remember if your vehicle has two (one for the gauge, one for the computer) or a single unit that feeds both. If seperate (your parts house should know this) change the one that feeds info to the computer.
Essentially this sensor does the job of the choke on the carburetor on non-fuel injected vehicles, by allowing additional fuel into engine on cold-starts. After engine comes up to operating temp, it reverts back to normal run mode... (why you need to warm it up at excessive rpm before driving!) Good luck!

Sounds like it could be your fuel pump, turn your key on and have your son listen to the fuel tank he should hear a humming sound. If he does not you probably need a fuel pump.

Could be a faulty fuel pump. As the pump warms up, when you have a faulty fuel pump they will tend to seize up. When it fails check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge and see what it reads.

it sounds like your timing system is on its way out the belt probably has streched and is close to not working at all.when u turn your ignition and applies power to the starter for the vehicle to start the piston must be in the right position when the electrical current ignites the spark plug. if u smelled gas thats from fuel that didn't explode in the chamber from a misfire, the misfire is because the spark and the chamber position are not in sync
