Question about 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Recently purchased 1995 cutlass supreme engine overheating,blows hot air until car overheats 280 degrees,then blows cold air. we have replaced thermostat,water pump,sensor on block,fan relays, and by-passed the heater core. oil is brand new,no loss of coolant, and burped the cooling system also no loss of engine power.no visable leaks from engine no white smoke from exhaust. what else is there?

Not good news , and hate to tell you ,but the head gasket is blown between 2 cylinders. Had this happen to me .No white smoke, no coolant in the oil, but if the engine overheats in a short time ,You will notice the coolant will blow out the radiator ,if the cap is removed. Also if the engine is a quad 4 ,you also will need to change timming chain and tesionors. Tough job. If you bought from a dealer they should repair the problem. If not, I would consider engine replacement with a good used engine. It would save alot of work ,and in the long run ,a used motor ,with lower miles, would be the choice I would make. If you choose to repair old engine , there could be other issues. Warped or cracked head, damaged cylinder walls,ect... hope this will help in your decision.

Have the cooling system checked for hydrocarbons, you may be dealing with a head gasket regardless of the fact of that you are not losing any coolant.

2005 chevy impala overheat light comes on, the car was shaking when I started it and cold air when idling but when given a little gas the car starts blowing out hot air what do you think it might be?

Overheating and Heat doesn't work


Sounds to me like air trapped somewhere in the coolant's path. You said there's a warm spot on top of the engine. This makes me think of possibly a cracked intake manifold or cylinder head. Did it overheat right before this started? I would have the coolant system 'back flushed' and if the problem is still there, I'd next do a compression test (with the radiator cap off).and check to see if there are air bubbles in the radiator while testing. Good luck, please let me know what you find.
