I have a1968 chevelle with a 396 engine i recently changed the oil in it and went to syntheced oil and my lifters seem realy loud whould this be the problem

Since you replaced a valve spring you know how.. I would replace them all since one broke.. I think this car is a hydrolic lifter.. you may not have adjusted them correctky.. possibly buy new lifters, and springts from Summit racing or Jegs.. and replace them all .. this is not a very costly repair if you are doing the labor. When you have it apart look at the top of the valve that hits the rocker are.. you are looking for wear and cracks.. Look at each rocker arm looking for the same.. Please post a comment and let us know what you find..

Timing chain slip

depends i would get a new timming chain fitted first and the try starting it before getting a new engine also depends on how much it has sliped if only 1 or 2 teeth should only be running realy rough if snaped and as long as the car engine wasent running hard it should fingers crossed be ok

When timing a 2000 2.4 dohc chain .I know to line the 1/8 holes on cams. Do i need to turn crank two rounds to get on a compression stroke. What i did was replace waterpump and chain move so when i tried...

you replaced the lifters? why? the engine is out of time, the cam position determines if its on compression stroke or not. you may have bent valves, if not you are lucky. the cams have pins to hold them in time and then the chain is installed with crank on #1 tdc (keyway up). if all is lined up correctly and it doesnt have compression, you have bent the valves. Water pump replacement is not a job for a DIY.

Hi.3 cylinder polo on a 54 plate it's done 53k,i've been told the 3 cylinder has a timing chain and will not need replacing is this correct or will i have to get it replaced if so at what milage,many...

Hi the trick with this engine is early oil and oil filter changes to minimise chain wear as they
tend to get very noisey around the 80k mark and often fail before 90k destroying the valves and
pulling off the bottom chain sprocket that is only pressed on to the crankshaft so thats no good either my advise is to run it to 70k if you have to and get something else before it self destructs

I have a ticking in the top of motor sound like it,s in the head

YOU HEAR VALVE LIFTERS.MOST TIME YOU HEAR VALVE LIFTER NOISE.LIFTERS ARE WORN OUT OR OIL + FILTER COULD NEED CHANGING.BECAUSE DIRTY OIL WILL STOP UP LIFTERS CAUSE THEM BE NOISEY.YOU CAN ADD BOTTLE OF MARVEL MYSTERY OIL IT WILL HELP QUIET DOWN NOISEY LIFTERS.

The timing chain, cam gear and crank gear has all been replaced.the timing has been set and still the truck will not turn over, backfires once and does the same hollow noise.is this is a freewheeling engine...

It definately sounds as though you've got your cam gear set 180 degrees off. When your timing is at top dead center your crankshaft will be at TDC on the guage, the cam gear will have both of the lobes at 10:00 and 2:00 away from the surface of the valve they serve on the number one cylinder. This can only be see if the valve cover is removed, which at this point I'm sure it is. Thank you, Dana

Valves ticking in my 1999 buick century

Did you check your oil level? Is the oil light on? (No oil pressure) try changing oil & install an engine additive for noisey lifters, If none of this works need to place lifters

Just replaced head gaskets. now the lifters are noisey. did I need to soak the rocker assemblies in oil?

yes lubrication is a crucial task of engines... needs to be done right. i wonder did you cut the valves.... did u rebuilt the heads if u did how much they cut them.

Cambelt sliped or broken. does the valves bend.

what is the liter size of your engine? the 1.8L is an interference engine. generally all Audi engines are interference engines, and timing belt breakage can bend valves, the sure way to determine without detailed maintenance information, install a new belt, once the belt is on immediately run a compression test, if timing marks are good and compression fails, valves are bent.
