I need to assemble my clutch assembly back together i need a detailed view of what the components should go and where

If you go to a site like ebay or amazon, you can purchase inexpensive used service manuals that will give you step by step instructions on how to install a clutch.
It is not a simple procedure, and will usually take around 6-8 hours to do a clutch job, unless yours is AWD then it might be more time.

If you just need a parts diagram, go to www.realoem.com and you can do a BMW parts component search. It will also give you part numbers too, which saves time instead of waiting for the slow guy at the dealership parts counter. Good luck.

  1. NOTE: If installing a new A/C compressor, the A/C clutch components should be reused unless obvious signs of damage are found. If excessive grooving is found, a new A/C clutch disc and hub and A/C compressor pulley must be installed together. Otherwise, each component can be installed individually where needed.
    Visually inspect the A/C clutch disc and hub, A/C compressor pulley and A/C clutch field coil for damage.
    • Inspect for physical damage, including cracked or melted components or discoloration due to excessive heat.
    • Inspect for excessive wear, including grooving in the A/C clutch disc and hub or A/C compressor pulley that is more than fingernail depth.
    • Inspect for roughness in the A/C compressor pulley bearing.
  1. Clean the A/C disc and field coil and pulley mounting surfaces.

    Install the A/C clutch field coil.
    1. Place the A/C clutch field coil on the A/C compressor with the A/C clutch field coil electrical connector correctly positioned.

To install:
1. Position the fan on the drive clutch. Install the bolt and washer assemblies, then tighten to 12-17 ft. lbs. (16-24 Nm).

2. Position the fan drive clutch, fan assembly and fan shroud, then bolt the fan and clutch assembly to the water pump hub. Install and tighten the clutch retaining bolt and water pump assemblies evenly and alternately to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm) for the 3.8L engine or to 36-47 ft. lbs. (48-65 Nm) for the 5.0L engine.

3. Install the fan belt. Align the fan shroud and adjust for equal fan-to-shroud radiator clearance but maintaining a minimum of 0.38 inch clearance to the fan tip on 5.0L engines.

4. Install and tighten the shroud retaining screws. On 5.0L engines, snap the air deflector assembly to the sub-frame cross brace.

To install:
1. Position the fan on the drive clutch. Install the bolt and washer assemblies, then tighten to 12-17 ft. lbs. (16-24 Nm).

Where can I get solid/detailed instructions for changing out the water pump on my 2001 Yukon SLE 4.8? Something that would include torque specs. and any must does and don'ts would be nice.

  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Air outlet duct Coolant Inlet radiator hose from the water pump Upper fan shroud Cooling fan and clutch assembly Drive belt Radiator outlet hose from the coolant pump Surge tank hose Heater hose Water pump

To install:

NOTE DO NOT use cooling system seal tabs (or similar compounds) unless otherwise instructed. The use of cooling system seal tabs (or similar compounds) may restrict coolant flow through the passages of the cooling system or the engine components. Restricted coolant flow may cause engine overheating and/or damage to the cooling system or the engine components/assembly.
  1. Install or connect the following:
    Water pump. Install the water pump bolts. Tighten the water pump bolts first pass to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm); tighten the bolts final pass to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm). Water pump drive belt pulley and bolts (if applicable). Tighten the pulley bolts first pass to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm); tighten the bolts final pass to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).   1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Air inlet and outlet duct Coolant Inlet radiator hose from the water pump Upper fan shroud Cooling fan and clutch assembly Drive belt Radiator outlet hose from the coolant pump Surge tank hose Heater hose Water pump

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    Water pump. Install the water pump bolts. Tighten the bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm) for the first pass; then tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) for the final pass. Water pump drive belt pulley and bolts (if applicable). Tighten the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm) for the first pass; then tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) for the final pass. How do I put back together the rear drum?


These are standard Bendix self energising rear drum brakes. Pictures of the assembly with exploded views can be seen here....

The real difficulty with doing the re-assembling is not where the parts go, but getting it all back in place. There is a technique to use. If you have problems, get back here again.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If equipped with a cable clutch (1982-84 vehicles), disconnect the cable at the clutch release lever and transaxle, as outlined earlier in this section.
  3. For 1985-94 vehicles remove the sound insulator from inside the vehicle. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal.

  1. Remove the transaxle, as outlined earlier in this section.
  2. Mark the pressure plate assembly and the flywheel so that they can be assembled in the same position. They were balanced as an assembly at the factory.
  3. Loosen the attaching bolts one turn at a time until spring tension is relieved.
  4. Support the pressure plate and remove the bolts. Remove the pressure plate and clutch disc. Do not disassemble the pressure plate assembly; replace it if defective.
  5. Inspect the flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing and the clutch fork and pivot shaft assembly for wear. Replace the parts as required. If the flywheel shows any signs of overheating, or if it is badly grooved or scored, it should be refaced or replaced.

To install:
  1. Clean the pressure plate and flywheel mating surfaces thoroughly.
  2. Position the clutch disc and pressure plate into the installed position, and support with a dummy shaft or clutch aligning tool, tool J 29074 or equivalent. The clutch plate is assembled with the damper springs offset toward the transaxle. One side of the factory supplied clutch disc is stamped "Flywheel Side".
  3. Install the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts. Tighten them in the sequence shown in the accompanying figure, as follows:
    1. Tighten bolts 1,2,3, then 4,5,6 in the sequence shown to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
    2. Tighten bolts 1,2,3, then 4,5,6 in the sequence shown to 15-22 ft. lbs. (22-30 Nm) plus an additional 30° turn.
    3. Remove the clutch alignment tool.

  4. Lubricate the outside groove and the inside recess of the release bearing with high temperature grease. Wipe off any excess. Install the release bearing.
  5. Install the transaxle, as outlined earlier in this section.



WARNING When adjusting the cruise control switch, do NOT exert an upward force on the clutch pedal pad of more than 20 lbs. (89 N) or damage to the master cylinder pushrod retaining ring may result.

  1. For 1985-94 vehicles, attach the clutch master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal and secure with the retaining clip. If equipped with cruise control, check the switch adjustment at the clutch pedal bracket. Install the sound insulator.
  2. If equipped with a cable clutch, attach the clutch cable at the transaxle and clutch release lever. Check the clutch operation by lifting the clutch pedal up to allow the mechanism to adjust the cable length. Depress the pedal slowly a few times to set the pawl into mesh with the quandrant teeth.


ADJUSTMENTS


All 1982-84 models have a self-adjusting clutch mechanism located on the clutch pedal, eliminating the need for periodic free play adjustments. The self-adjusting mechanism should be inspected periodically as follows:
  1. Depress the clutch pedal and look for the pawl on the self-adjusting mechanism to firmly engage the teeth on the ratchet.
  2. Release the clutch. The pawl should be lifted off of the teeth by the metal stop on the bracket.

On 1985 and later models, the hydraulic clutch system provides automatic clutch adjustment. No adjustment of clutch linkage or pedal position is required.

My 2001 lincoln ls wont go into 4th or 5th gears. Took it to a trans shop and they recommended a rebuild for 3000+ dollars. But Ive been reading that alot of lincolns with the same problem getting err

Shift Patterns Upshifts
Transmission upshifting is controlled by the powertrain control module. The PCM receives inputs from various engine or vehicle sensors and driver demands to control shift scheduling, shift feel and torque converter clutch (TCC) operation.
The PCM has an adaptive learn strategy to electronically control the transmission which will automatically adjust the shift feel. When the battery has been disconnected, or a new battery installed certain transmission operating parameters may be lost. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) must re-learn these parameters. During this learning process you may experience slightly firm shifts, delayed, or early shifts. This operation is considered normal and will not affect the function of the transmission. Normal operation will return once these parameters are stored by the PCM.

Apply Components Band — Overdrive
For component location, refer to Disassembled Views in this section.
During 2nd and 5th gear operation, hydraulic pressure is applied to the overdrive servo.
  • This pressure causes the piston to move and apply force to the band.
  • This action causes the overdrive band to hold the overdrive drum.
  • This causes the overdrive sun gear to be held stationary through the adapter plate and the overdrive drum.
Band — Low/Reverse
For component location, refer to Disassembled Views in this section.
During 2nd gear operation, 1st gear operation and reverse, hydraulic pressure is applied to the low/reverse servo.
  • This pressure causes the servo to move and apply force to the low/reverse band.
  • This action causes the low/reverse brake drum to be held.
  • This action causes the low/reverse planetary assembly to be held stationary.
Band — Intermediate
For component location, refer to Disassembled Views in this section.
During 3rd gear operation, hydraulic pressure is applied to the intermediate servo.
  • This pressure causes the servo to move and apply force to the intermediate band.
  • This action causes the direct clutch drum to be held.
  • The intermediate band holds the intermediate brake and direct clutch drum to the case in 3rd gear.
  • This causes the input shell and forward sun gear to be held stationary.
Clutches — Direct
For component location, refer to Disassembled Views in this section.
The direct clutch is a multi-disc clutch made up of steel and friction plates.
  • The direct clutch is applied with hydraulic pressure and disengaged by return springs and the exhaust of the hydraulic pressure.
  • It is housed in the direct clutch drum.
  • During 4th, 5th, and reverse gear application, the direct clutch is applied transferring torque from the forward clutch cylinder to the direct clutch drum.
  • This action causes the forward sun gear to drive the pinions of the low/reverse planetary carrier.
Clutches — Forward
For component location, refer to Disassembled Views in this section.
The forward clutch is a multi-disc clutch made up of steel and friction plates.
  • The forward clutch is applied with hydraulic pressure and disengaged by return springs and the exhaust of the hydraulic pressure.
  • The forward clutch is applied in all forward gears.
  • When applied, the forward clutch provides a direct mechanical coupling between the center shaft and the forward ring gear and hub.
Clutches — Coast
For component location, refer to Disassembled Views in this section.
The coast clutch is a multi-disc clutch made up of steel and friction plates.
  • The coast clutch is applied with hydraulic pressure and disengaged by return springs and the exhaust of the hydraulic pressure.
  • The coast clutch is housed in the overdrive drum.
  • The coast clutch is applied when in 1st, 3rd, D4, and reverse positions.
  • When applied, the coast clutch locks the overdrive sun gear to the overdrive planetary carrier, thus preventing the one-way clutch from overrunning when the vehicle is coasting.
    • This allows the use of engine compression to help slow the vehicle and provide engine braking.
Clutches — Intermediate
For component location, refer to Disassembled Views in this section.
The intermediate clutch is a multi-disc stationary clutch made up of steel and friction plates which are in a module assembly that includes the cylinder and frictions.
  • Applied with hydraulic pressure.
  • Disengaged by a return spring and releasing of hydraulic pressure.
  • Hydraulic pressure is feed through a feed tube in the case worm trail.
  • Uses a bonded piston in an aluminum housing.
  • Applied in during a 2-3 shift event.
  • Transfers torque from the sun gear to the planetary carrier.
  • Torque transfer causes the one way clutch to engage and holds the sun gear from turning, delivering 3rd gear.
One-Way Clutch — Direct
For component location, refer to Disassembled Views in this section.
The direct one-way clutch is a sprag-type one-way clutch that is pressed into the center shaft.
  • The direct one-way clutch is driven by the ring gear of the overdrive planetary carrier.
  • The direct one-way clutch holds and drives the outer splines of the center shaft in 1st, 3rd, 4th and reverse gears.
  • The direct one-way clutch overruns during all coast operations and at all times in 2nd and 5th gear.
One-Way Clutch — Intermediate
For component location, refer to Disassembled Views in this section.
The Intermediate One-Way Clutch is a sprag type one-way clutch.
  • The Intermediate One-Way Clutch connects the intermediate assembly to the input shell and sun gear assembly in third gear.
One-Way Clutch — Low/Reverse
For component location, refer to Disassembled Views in this section.
The low/reverse one-way clutch is a sprag type one-way clutch.
  • The low/reverse one-way clutch holds the low/reverse drum and low/reverse planetary assembly to the case in 1st and 2nd gear.
  • In all other gears the low/reverse one-way clutch overruns.

How do I get the clutch to release from the transmission on a evo


All 1996 Model Year and newer vehicles
equipped with manual transaxles except Accents
, which have the "push" type clutch system. SERVICE PROCEDURE:
  • Drain the transaxle gear oil.
  • The reference photo to the right shows the clutch related components as viewed from outside the transaxle case.

Separate the release lever by removing the snap pin and clevis pin.
Separate the release lever from the fork shaft.
Loosen the bolts attached to the release cylinder and separate the release cylinder from the transaxle assembly (no need to open the clutch hydraulic system).
  • Remove the transaxle assembly after removing each bolt attached to the engine assembly.
  • Remove the clutch cover assembly. The release bearing is still attached.
To separate the release bearing from the clutch cover, rotate the release bearing to gain access to the bearing snap ring.

Possibility, you may have intalled the clutch disk backwards.... if so, the disk hub is torqued against the crankshaft hub preventing engagement of the clutch. 2003 TIBUORN DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCH DISC ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION: The 2003 MY 2.7L Tiburon vehicle equipped with the 6-speed manual transaxle employs a dual mass flywheel system. The 2003 Tiburon Shop Manual does not show the clutch disc assembly with the dual mass flywheel. This bulletin provides information about how to assemble these components. NOTE Although it is possible to assemble the clutch disc with either side facing the flywheel surface, only the assembly of these two parts shown in this bulletin is correct.
PARTS ASSEMBLY:
  1. Attach the dual mass flywheel to the engine crankshaft assembly.
  2. Identify the clutch disc flange side and the collar side as shown. 0240025a.gif
  3. Install the collar side of the clutch disc on the dual mass flywheel surface so that the flange side is facing the pressure plate side as shown. 0240025b.gif
  4. Attach the pressure plate to the dual mass flywheel and complete assembly of the remaining components per the Shop Manual procedures. 0240025c.gif
