Question about 1984 Chevrolet S-10

1 Answer

My '84 s10 ran 2 years ago, then it sat outside untouched until now, it turns over but doesn't want to fire up. What should I do to get it running? Is it not getting enough fuel?

Engine wont turn over

You have asked a question which cannot be answered without a LOT more information. Like what do you mean, won't turn over? By hand? or by starter? And if starter, have you checked all electrical start systems? Have you TRIED turning it over by hand?? You should have done that FIRST before you ever tried to start it.

If you care about the condition of the engine after 12 years, you have a lot MORE work to do than worry about whether it will crank over. I had the same situation last year with a car that had sat for 10 years, and I worked on it about 2 weeks (off and on) before I ever hit the starter. (Hint: you do NOT want to suck in 12-year old gas and 12-year old oil. Another hint, pull all the plugs and squirt light oil - Marvel Mystery Oil, drain ALL the gas, oil and coolant and replace.) Oh, and by the way, when I finally hit the starter, it fired right up. Now get to work and check back in 2 weeks.

87 jaguar xj6 turns over no fire

try quick start straight into air intake or air filter housing while turning over <if it fires up for a few seconds its a fueling problem ,if not more than likely a spark related problem

Have 93 Lumina sat for a year now won't start and seems to have no fuel pressure. new battery turns over fine but doesn't seem to want to fire either. Ran great when i parked it. WTH??

older cars need to be run alternators sieze up fuel pump gets gummed up .the gas is probably bad so this will make it have no pressure

yes it sounds like you may have a belt issue, may have deteriorated of the the two year span, on the other hand it may be a pulley issue two, you wont know until you change the belt

sounds like ignition module inside of distributor cap under distributor rotor button.these do go bad and can easily be replaced.strong suspicion from your details that this is the culprit.

84 Celica ST has been sitting and will not start

Pull out one spark plug and start, check for spark, If there is no spark, check if you have spark on the coil wire going to the cap.

Ca ran outta gas, sat 2 days, start then died.

you have to allow time for the fuel to get back into the injectors.you have air in the lines from running it out of gas

Have you checked that you have power to the coil on cranking? You may also want to check wether you have a good strong spark at the spark plug.It could be an ignition module breaking down.If you have no power to the coil you may need to change the ignition relay. Its close to the battery.

Chevy Trucks, Blazers, S10 pickup and the like will vapor lock ecspecially the 2000 models. Do not tighten the gas cap past 1 click. There is a tube that runs from the top of the tank down and this gets hot and collapses or burns in half. We just bought a reinforced rubber tube cut it to lengh and use it instead of part and it's worked grat for 2 years so far.
