If it starts when cold, but will not start hot, then it is a bad fuel injection system. if it is unpredictably intermittant, with no particular pattern, it may be corrosion on the battery cables/terminals (in need of cleaning), or your starter is beginning to fail.

There may be a problem with VATS due to intermittent contact between the resistor in your key and the contacts in the ignition lock cylinder. Try to move your key slightly and turn it again.

If the issue only occurs when engine is hot, it might be the famous hot start problem. Installing a remote starter solenoid should solve it.

1989 camaro engine

Here is a link for you to check the DTC code to see what issues your engine management has detected. I am going to suspect the EGR valve may be stuck open, that's why your having most of the problem you have described. Good luck and keep me posted and check or replace the EGR valve, the car is too old to just clean out the EGR valve.

Camaro trouble

Place the shifter in neutral and try to start. If the problem goes away you have a park/neutral safty switch at fault. If the problem remains, I would consider replacing the ignition switch located on the lower steering column, not the key tumbler but the ignition switch. If you have a test light and know how to use one we can go through the test procedure.
Try the shifter test first and let me know.

92 RS Camaro, Replaced battery and now car has no power?

are your battery post bolts clean and tight, my 89 rs ran fine untill i decided i wanted shiny new battery bolts, when i put them in and tightened them down my car had no power at all, i checked how tight they were, and they were TIGHT so i wiggled the black cable and re tightened it and bam my lights turned on, tryied starting it, and it started, sometimes you just gotta make sure the connection is really good, not just how tight it is, also check your ground wires, there are a few but the main 2 are located at the front pass side next to the batt, and on the back firewall going from the bottom pass head to the firewall, hope that helps, if not comment back
