Have you checked your dash fuse yet?

OK, since the fuse is good, you will need to check the wiring harness. You can visually look at the harness to inspect it for loose wires/connections. Everything else will need tested by a voltage meter or wiring schematic.I am not quite sure if the whole dash must come out. You need to get directly behind the dash cluster and check the wires. It may have a bad ground. When you are at the harness, be sure to take a mental picture of everything or label the wires. Be sure to take off the hot side battery terminal before you work on the harness. If the dash doesn't come off in sections, the whole dash will need removed. Thank you for choosing FixYa.

Anytime. It is always a hassle when you are dealing with electrical wires. They are so many wires around the dash area, so I know it can be confusing. When you take out your cluster, mark that harness in the back. That is the one you want to look at. You may just have a bad ground. All your ground wires are black. I know it is a rough job, so if you have any additional questions, feel free to ask.

How do i reconnect a ac vacuum line in a 2001 ford taurus

Follow the line from under the dash on the passenger side by removing any panel under the dash and kick panel area, the hose goes through there.

Did the brakes on a 2003 ford focus ZTS 2.0 . Everything was text book . but now the traction control , ABS and parking break lights on the dash stay lit all the time . any ideas . And yes fluid is fine

Do you have a brake pedal??? Also check the brake fluid resivor cap ,,i think you should have a connector hooked to it..Make sure the plunger in the cap is moving and make sure you have a good connection on the connector..If so check your speed sensor connectors

Digital odometer below the speedo has stopped being lit up.now i can hardly see it. i checked the fuses and cant see any blown??loose earth wire maybe?

Hi hairymcchevy,

Yes, it could be a loose wire, but more likely, if no fuses are blown and the rest of the dash panel is lit, it is a bulb inside the dashboard/odometer. Most of the digital dashes I have seen are lit through the clear plastic housing behind the matte finished masks. This is not exactly an easy fix, but it can be done.

you need to take the dash top off, remove the instrument panel, and check the bulbs in or behind it, to see if any of them are blown. It may save you a lot of work chasing down a loose/shorting wire.

The instrument panel will go off & on, just like you turned the ignition off & on. The dealer has replaced my cluster panel, but this just keeps happening. They do not seem to have a answer as it...

First, I would say you are getting Excellent service for a model that is almost 9 years old. You may have hit upon the problem by saying "Its just like turning the Ignition off and on".

The problem could be the Ignition switch. You have 2 problems now and would want to look for a common source causing them both. For just the dash lights to be intermittent could easily be a pin connector supplying power to the dash. But you are also having a memory wipe of the Theft Alarm. Sometimes this wipe can occur if another key from a Ford vehicle is inserted in the wrong car. Could that have occurred?

If not, then there is a wiring problem causing both problems. That would be the question to ask the Dealer. "What connection would both the Dash lights and Theft Alarm have in common?". The Dash lights are usually on a shared circuit, so there would be other things affected. The Dealers can sometimes get Tech assistance from Ford, they just have to ask them the question. The Ignition switch would be a cheap fix if it solved the problem. Sometimes it is better to guess than spend hours of Labor to end up at the same point.

Would like to know the outcome of this.

Failing dash lights and cruise control

Pull the instrument panel connector off at the rear of cluster and look for any damaged connections, clean it and reconnect, that may cure the issue, the cruise problem may be the rotating contact in the steering wheel, it is called the clocksprimng contact because that is what it looks like, changing this part is not for the DIY mechanic, the driver airbag must be dis-armed correctly or serious injury will occur if the bag goes off, the very least it will scare the H... out of you, if you are lucky....
