I have KIA sorento 2.5 diesel 2009 model and it was overhaul engine and now the the oil lump keeps on flicking when reducing speed or idling after getting warm, What could be the problem

Remove the oil sender unit, fit a oil pressure gauge , start the engine and read the oil pressure at idle engine hot, must read above 10 psi and needle not flicking, must increase with engine speed , if pressure is ok replace censer, if not check oil pump screen and relief vale spring, can also be caused by crankshaft bearings clearance .

Low oil pressure

There's a couple of things you can try. You could have a bad oil pressure sender or a bad gauge. Without spending a lot you could replace the sender unit. If the gauge is defective, it is more expensive and the new sender was a waste of money.

You could have someone put on a pressure test gauge which would be threaded into the hole from removing the oil sender. This will tell you if the oil gauge and old sensor are accurate. If the readings from the mechanics add-on gauge are still low, then you have an internal engine problem.

A mechanic will cost you to hook up a test gauge, and you still may have to buy a new sender. Probably the best thing is to do is install a new sender yourself and if it works you are done; if it does not help either go to a mechanic or replace the gauge.

An internal engine problem could be an oil pump, or bearings.

Oil pressure gauge

Oil sender unit possibly. Have seen problems with some of the Toyotas sender units before. Best to take the sender unit off and check the oil pressure to be safe so you do not cook the engine.

My oil gauge on my 1985 land cruiser is not working but i cannot find the sender unit to see if thats the problem. where is it???

It is on the right side of the engine, about halfway down in the middle. Should have two wires going to it, one for the oil light and one for the gauge. It is around 1.5 inches in diameter.

Gauges work fine when engine's started, then oil gauge falls below zero and warning light comes on saying "Check gauges," so I check the oil and transmission fluid levels and these are fine but...

start by checking the ground strap to the engine, and engine to body. The oil pressure sender unit may be bad. You may have to hook up an oil pressure gauge to the oil pressure sender port to verify proper oil pressure. Senders are cheap- I would just replace it and go from there.

No engine oil pressure.

First things first obviously you want to check the oil level.

Assuming that the level is good, and the oil isn't sludge, then we can move on.

If the engine runs smoothly we will have to see it it is a faulty gauge, or a faulty sender. If the engine knocks, and rattles, then it may be a serious problem, which may need to be brought in for professional help.

To test the sender and gauge first turn your ignition to the run posistion with the vehicle not running.
Then look at you oil pressure gauge. If it reads 0 you will then want to locate the oil pressure sender and unplug the unit. If the gauge goes up then your gauge is working properly, and you sender has failed. Replace the sender and you should be golden.

Oil pressure gauge not reading on my 1994 jeep wrangler. oil is full just the guage has no pressure and not alot of power

The oil pressure specification for your engine is 13 PSI at idle hot, 37 to 75 PSI at engine RPM higher than 1600. I suspect your oil pressure gauge sender unit or gauge is inaccurate. I would have a known accurate mechanical oil pressure gauge temporarily screwed into the present oil sender unit to verify actual pressure.

If you have the correct pressure I would replace the sending unit first.
