Question about 1998 Pontiac Sunfire

2 Answers

I have a problem with a 1998 pontiac grand prix- can you still help? If so,- I somehow set off the anti theft system with my car. I went to the creek and locked it with the keyless. Somehow my keys got very wet while we were there and the keyless wouldn't work so I used the key to open the door, now it won't start. My uncle hotwired it so I could at least get home, but the flashers blink constantly now too. IS there ANYWAY to fix this?

Hi,First you should take any wires of that were installed before that causes major problems. If the key has a chip on it you may have to get another one made ,if it got very wet.If the security light is flashing, you can try this.1.turn the key to the run position but do not start it.2.leave the key in the run position for 10 to 15 minutes or until the security light stops flashing (becomes solid)3.if and when it becomes solid turn the key to the off position.4.wait 10 seconds an try to crank....If it wont crank or the security light keeps blinking. You will have to take proof of ownership (title) to the dealer and they will make you another key

How do I reset the anti theft system on a 2004 Pontiac grand prix

Its sounds like the anti theft system has failed. This is very common in GM cars. This has happened to me so I know your frustration. There is a site that has a lot of information on how to bypass/ permanently fix it. You can actually do it yourself for far less then what a mechanic would charge. Hope this helps!

My car was running fine. I turned it off and now it won't start and my keyless remote or trunk opener or nothing works. The horn won't even honk. Is this something to do with the anti theft...

Might possibly be. Pontiacs were really tied into that anti theft security system. They were notorious for breaking. Here is a link to a site about these SECURITY systems. And possible DO IT YOURSELF solutions. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Anti-theft

if the vehicle starts then stops and the anti-theft light is flahing you may need to re-set the pass-key system to do this you will need to atempt to start the vehicle and when it stalls leave the key in that position and watch the anti-theft light. it should flash on and off for about 5 to 10 minutes. when it stops flahing turn the ignition to off then try to restart your vehicle

Pontiac gran prix 1998

The code can ONLY be entered by a PROPER scan tool. The radio thinks u're trying to steal it and therefore won't work. Dealers gotcha by the balls here.
