Question about 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse

1 Answer

It seems like one of the cylinders is not firing. Replaced the plugs, wires, and dist. Cap. Swapped fuel injectors around, didn't help. It was still in the same cyl. It has spark, fuel, and compression. Any ideas?

Are you doing any testing at all & how
    to determine cyl firing issues

The plugs are sparking, the injectors are pumping. I haven't had a chance to hook it to a computer. I'm trying to avoid the shop cost.

First need to check if fireing or not , your saying it seems to be? Try removing plug wire with engine running and hols a inch or two away and see if you here the engine idles down , if so it's fireing if not may be coil weak, good luck.

The engine idles down on all but the one. My repair guide is M.I.A. if the coil is weak, can I check it at home, or even repair at home?

Plugs are not firing on left bank. Replaced dist. wites plugs and the dist. itself

Are you sure its not a fuel issue? If you replaced the Dist cap, Rotor,Wires,Plugs and the main Distributor, spark should not be an issue. Unless the coil isn't producing enough juice to fire all cylinders. I would replace the coil.

What causes misfire in #1 cylinder

A failed fuel injector will do it also. Compare the injector coil resistance with that of another injector. If it's open or significantly different, the injector coil is bad. The injector could also have a mechanical problem such as a clog.

1999 GMC Jimmy 4.3 gets P0303 (#3 misfire) Changed plugs, cap, rotor, wires. Did not help. Read GM tech bulletin and replaced fuel injection system from SCPI to MFI. Did not work. Checked #3 plug again...

Yes . You need an ohm/ volt meter. First check the injector, at the leads of the injector you should have 11 to 15 ohms. At the injector plug with the ignition on you should have 12 volts at one of the wires. To check for fire at the plug put the meter leads on the plug leads and crank the engine. the voltage should spike. My guess is that you have a bad wire on the #3 injector. All the injectors will have 12 volts with key on. The ECM grounds the injectors according to where the crank/cam sensor is. On your vehicle it fires 2 cylinders at a time. This is why I say you have a bad /broken wire. At the #3 injector plug you can also check for ground to the ECM. Instead of putting both leads to the plug you have to first find the ECM wire, then put the meter leads to that wire and ground on the battery. Again it should spike in ohms

I have a 2000 gmc jimmy with a service engine soon light. i received the code p0302 misfire detected cylinder 2.I replaced spark plugs and distributor cap and rotor. but still on. any other suggestion?

Well, Spark Plugs wear over time, seldom fail to fire
A worn or dirty rotor and cap will still fire, also

You never throw new wires at it,I don't,mine last 18 years,
on all vehicles

You need some OBD2 knowledge, start studying

The PO302,last # is the cylinder
Number 2 is misfiring

If you got individual coils, go there
If you got an ignition module, for all the cyl,go there
If you got plug wires, there is an extremely odd chance, one burned out inside ,on #2
& you did say your have a dist cap.

So you do have a cylinder monitor, that detected it
That may be the crank sensor, another possible

Need to know the system and how to test it.

You need to give veh specifics ,not just a year

No fire from coil to #1 cylinder

Ok since you did all that if you want to swap around fuel injectors taking note where you put cylinder 1 injector. Lets say you swapped it with cylinder 4 . Now if you get a different code say P0304 which is for cylinder 4 misfire then you know it is your injector at fault. These are wear items and should be replaced every 100,000 miles.
Also i would suggest if you dont want to do that is get some good high octane gas when you are completely empty and fill to 1/4 tank now put in Lucas Oil fuel injector cleaner and run the car till empty. Now fill up tank with high octane gas in see if this helps. Clear code after your second tank of gas and see if the code comes back. if code does pop back up then i would do the swapping of injectors as i stated earlier. I hope this helps and good luck with the diagnosis.

Cylinder 5 missfire 1999 tahoe

How is the pressure in the fuel rail? a low pressure will cause erratic firing of the injectors - the further down the rail u get usually the worse the problem. If the fuel filter was not changed regularly or if the vehicle stood for a while, dirty fuel/standing fuel at some time in the recent past, this **** will accumulate in tyhe injectors. To avoid spending a loada cash, swap a few injectors around and see if the problem moves with the injector.
