I have a 96 ford probe se automatic. i only have reverse and no driving gears what so ever. i have no idea whats wrong with it and i need help. please.

Sorry to be the one to answer this, but your transmission has gone out. Ford used some terrible transmissions! Ihad the same thing happen on my Ford and get to talking to friends and family and it is common place. There is a star gear and the welds break. Some of them didn't even make it to 20,000 miles. I traded it in with only reverse and will never own another Ford.

Hello you have a internal problem it is not a fuse or a chip you will need to have have your vehicle hoisted up for further assessment your reveres gear might need to be overhauled perhaps whole transmission needs overhauling.

1989 ford probe automatic suddenly refuses to engage into reverse.

First thing I would suggest is, you check the transmission fluid level in your car. If your fluid level is adequate, then you may need to have your transmission bands adjusted or gears and/or clutches within your transmission replaced.

After reading your question again, I am unsure if you shifter will not engage reverse or the transmission will not go into reverse. Nevertheless, if the transmission will not go into reverse, even after the car warms up, then your transmission may require a serious overhaul. Try driving your vehicle for several miles and see if it goes into reverse after warming up.

check with a transmission shop but 2 things it could be,1-broken pump shaft and/or pump gear 2-of what i know with taurus transmissions since i used to own one years ago, there is a piston inside that breaks. Some transmission shops would fix ONLY what it needs instead of fixing the whole thing, the problem is labor in taking it out to fix it, and re-assembly,but a phone call to a specialist is worth the few minutes.

Reverse lights do not work on 96 ford explorer xlt

This car is an automatic transmission? If so I would suspect that a good cleaning underneath the shifter console would do a lot of good. Coffee, soda, debris, and time can all impede the proper function of the gear shift stalk position switch.
