Low speed fan

low speed fans go bad on all the R50 - R53's. It's very common. The resistors go bad and they're built into the fan . The whole unit will be replaced. You can get them online for a pretty good price, quite a bit cheaper than mini sells them. It's a bit of a job to replace, it takes a couple hours. You have to pull the bumper off, etc.

Mini R50 2002 airbag codes ZK2 & ZK4 PRESENT

Those are sensor errors for the system. Check all the wires under the passenger seat for loose connections, corrosion etc. The errors are seatbelt tension devices and occupant sensors. Some people just bypass the unit. I dont recommend that

I have a 2002 mini cooper s with an 02 sensor simulator on the downsream o2 sensor. the vehicle still displays a post cat system lean (P2096) code.

This could be for several reasons. I believe that the mini cooper uses 2 02 sensors, so it's possible that you have a faulty second sensor.
Or you could have a broken or missing vacuum line or intake manifold leak.
The other possible causes are a bad engine temp sensor, when the temp sensor is malfunctioning the computer may increase or degrease the fuel supply, If you getting a decreased fuel supply on a cold engine then you would have a lean exhaust.I would suggest starting with the easy stuff first, you can use a can of carb cleaner to spray around the intake and on vacuum hoses to seem if the engine picks up and idle or decreases in idle. This will tell you if you have a vacuum leak on a hose of manifold.
IF you can find a leak then I would suggest locating the other 02 sensor and use a simulator on it also.
And lastly if this didn't fix it then a test of the coolant temp sensor and the engine temp sensor would be in order.

you will need to take part of the bottom of the dash away but you wont have to take it out completely.
not done this for a while but as I recall you can slide it out the side near the passenger footwell.
like I say it was a while ago when I done it so not fresh in my head.

look where the fan is see what access you have around it.

good luck

What is the difference between a r50 and r53 mini

R50 is the designation that BMW use for the hardtop (i.e. not the convertible) hatchback version of the Mini One and Mini Cooper produced from 2001-2006, and including the special edition versions called 'Mini Seven' and 'Park Lane', and also the Mini One D (the diesel version) from 2004-2006.
R53 is the designation used for the Mini Cooper S (a supercharged version with 170 bhp) from 2002-2006, and also the special edition versions which were called the 'MC40' (2004), 'Cooper S works' (2005 on), the 'Mini GP' (2006) and the 'Cooper S checkmate' (2006)

If you have a Mini that was buit pre 2006 i.e. a first gen Mini then your new steering wheel will not fit, you need to buy a 1st gen Mini 3 spoke steering wheel.

Akso, for issues regarding the airbag light DO NOT pay the dealer silly amounts of money to solve the problem. Please visit the following thread
