Question about Ford E-350

I have a 1996 ford E-350 motorhome 460 engine, I can be driving down the hwy and fuel pressures drops off losing power. fuel pressure drops from 55psi to 15 psi. I can turn the key off for 15 seconds start engine up runs fine for a few miles. The fuel pump,fuel filter,fuel rail, fuel regulator, and fuel line from tank to engine has been replaced.still have the issue but not as bad.

Sounds like an electrical problem(power to the fuel pump) change the fuel pump relay And make sure the roll over switch is not tripped, It is located behind the passenger side kick panel . The red button must be pressed in to reset.

Check and see if the pulleys are shiny looking, also are the batteries low on charge, if you have more than one battery the load on the alt is huge, add in a low or bad set of batteries and then the belt can deliver enough power to spin the alternator, and it slips. Worked on motorhomes for year's, saw this allot.

It sounds like you have a pin hole in the hose that goes to the fuel pump in the gas tank. The pump is mounted on springs and it is common for the plastic hose to get a hole rubbed in it from one of the springs. This usually cause the vehicle to be real hard to get started when it is cold.

I'd check the manual transfer valve on the dash. They have a tendency to go bad after awhile. Cause 1000 different symptoms, and be the last thing checked/replaced. It's probably the cheapest place to start. The pump under the driver's feet is usually the last one to go in my experience, but the secondary culprit is normally the main pump in the rear tank.

Next time it tries to stall, toggle the fuel switch and see what happens. Same with a hard start. Back and forth a few times quickly.

It sounds like you might have a clogged catalatic converter on the exhaust system.

It may well be that your fuel pump has seen better days. An in-tank pump actually does a lot of work lifting the fuel and pushing it to the engine (that's why some vehicles have a second fuel pump fitted - to assist).

I once owned A VW that had the same symptoms as you describe. Sometimes, at speed, it would just cut out.

It was the fuel pump at fault and a new one cured the problem.

Wheres the fuel pump located in my 1982 460 ford holiday rambler motorhome????


One of them is on the front lower side of the engine block just aft of the timing chain cover. (this is the mechanecal pump). The other pump is electric and is located just in front of the gas tank and is near a fuel filter. There is probably a fuel pressure regulator located just behind the passenger side front wheel as well.

There is a check valve in the fuel pressure regulator that maintains fuel rail pressure when the engine is not running. Check it first before going after a leaky injector.

I have a 95 Ford F350 with the 460 motor. It started running fine when cold but after it warms up it starts to run rough, lose power, and runs REAL rich. I'm only getting a little more than 2mpg.


It Sounds like it is staying in the "cold start" routine. It also sounds like the diagnostic computer is not working right, because it must be rich and the O2 is not telling you a thing.

I would start by looking for a temperature sensor. You may have 2, with 1 being for the dash and the other being for the engine controls. You want to replace the temperature sensor for the Engine controls. This will help get it out of "cold start" routine.

Change your thermostat. The onboard computer does not monitor operating temperature.

Fuel pressure regulator. Have pressure checked.It could be forcing too much gas in each time an injector opens.

If you can not do this yourself, tow it in. At 2 mpg it may be cheaper to tow it than to drive any distance for repair. The Mechanics are going to need some gas left over in it to work on the engine.

Also turn on ignition and energize the fuel pressure, check for leaking fuel lines. Put on fuelcap locks if fuel drops when parked.

For this much of an extreme problem, I would like to know what you find wrong with it. I hope my solutions help.

1996 f150 pick up 4x4 it feels like the tanny wont power up its not slipping and i canged the selinoid pack in the ****** still the same takes for ever to pass somone on the hwy it has 5.8 in it


Have you ever checked the fuel pressure (should be 50PSI under a load like passing) or replaced the fuel filter? Do you have any electronic engine control fault codes? Has the exhaust back pressure been checked and it is not more than 2 pounds when the engine is under a load?

I have 87 class motorhome with a ford 460 4bbl crab , we can drive it 5 min or 5 hrs but it will shurt off like if if u trun the key off,it will restart by trun the key off then restart it and it will go...

I'm driving along at about 65 mph and all at once I start losing power, what could be my problem? it is a 460 cc engine in a flair motorhome


It sounds like it is starving for fuel ,like a fuel filter getting plugged, or if the temperature gage start going to the hot side, the exhaust could be getting plugged, although I don't it would have a catalytic converter.

Where is the fuel pump located on a 1987 ford 350 motorhome jambaree


On a 300cc / 4.9L has two fuel pumps both elec. one in gas tank and one on fram rail. On a 351 / 5.8L has one elec. fuel pump on fram rail and one mechanical type on drive side front of engine block.On 460/7.5L could have elec. fuel pump one on fram rail one in gas tank or mechanical type.Hope this was helpful.
