go to the yahoo group for villager quest. I suspect you are not using a compatible OBD 2 tester.

OBD2 tester was used. Should work as OBD2 global.

I figured it out. My scan tool protocol language was wrong. I realized I could change it manually.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

A/C fan switch only works on high

it's your blower motor resistor in the plenum case. They usually blow the thermal limiter because the blower motor is drawing too much current. It's starting to go.
You can replace the resistor, 2 screws under the dash on the passenger side. It has a 4 or 5 wie connector. About $25 from a Ford or Mercury dealer.
Also go to the Villager site for more help.

2000 Mercury Villager SES light

I assume you mean Check Engine Light (CEL). When you disconnect the battery for a time, it will clear the codes. Then, if the computer sees a fault times, it sets a code & turns the light on.
clean the MAF sensor with carb cleaner.

I would check all the wiring arund the air cleaner & see if any are corroded or broke during the filter change.
