Question about 2000 Pontiac Montana

1 Answer

Indicator lights for oil ABS, etc., won't turn off in 2000 Pontiac Montana. Tried the turn ignition on, push accessorator pedal to floor thing others had mentioned and it didn't help unfortunately. Any ideas? I just had an oil change and brakes checked and everything was good. Thanks!

I really need to know exactly which lights are on. If it is the change oil in the information box then you turn the ignition switch on, push the gas pedal down fully 3 times, turn the ign off. Then start the car and if it does not come on, then it has been reset. Sometimes you have to do that several times before it will reset, not sure why. I'm not sure what you mean by ABS and etc.

The ABS light shows on all the time, the Service Traction System stays on...basically any indicator light possible. I did get the fix for the change oil light so thank you :)

Its usually one of the front wheel abs sensors. Not always, but usually thats what I find. Where the connector is by the wheel. Things sometimes get ran over and will break the wires there, or the coil itself inside the hub goes bad. Check there first, if the wire is not broken then use an ohm meter to check resistance. You can check the rear sensors with an ohm meter also. When you fix the bad sensor or wires you will find that the traction control light will go off also.

How do you reset the change oil light on a 2002 pontiac montana

On most GM models, you turn the key on but don't start the engine.
Depress the gas pedal to the floor quickly three times.
The light should flash a few times then go away.

Oil Light is on need to Reset it. Don't have manaual.

Do you mean the "Oil" light or the "Oil Life System" light?
.
If the oil light is on, you need to stop operating the engine and have it checked to find out why the light is telling you that there is no oil pressure.

If you mean the Oil Life light, Then here are the instructions:

How to Reset the CHANGE ENGINE OIL Message

1. With the ignition key in RUN but the engine off,

fully push and release the accelerator pedal slowly

three times within five seconds.

2. Turn the key to OFF.

If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message comes

back on, the engine oil life monitor has not reset.
Repeat the procedure.

I have a 2000 Pontiac Montana and when I step on the brake pedal with the lights on or when I put it into reverse both turn signals indicator on the dash light up. Also with the light on the left turn...

Sounds like your hazard switch is going bad. There were a few years where the switches for the hazard lights would go bad, and since they overlap two systems; the brake lights, and the turn signals/flashers, it would cause all sorts of crazy things to happen. Because of the circuit overlap, normally if you step on the brakes while the warning flashers are on, the flashers stop working. You'll have to replace the switch for the 4-way flashers, and it should fix you right up. Don't go to GM for this, as they'll sell you the same known defective switch. Go to some place like Rockauto.com, or autozone, etc and get an aftermarket switch that has had this problem addressed in its design.

Pontiac montana 2005 how do you reset the change oil light.

Pontiac Montana, 2005
With the ignition key in RUN but engine off, repeatedly push the trip reset button until OIL is displayed on the driver info center. Once OIL is displayed, push and hold the reset button for five seconds. The number will disappear and be replaced by 100% of oil life remaining. The percentage will return to 100 and oil life indicator will be reset. Repeat steps if not reset to 100.
Good luck

  2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
    • If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator flashes two times, the system is resetting. Turn the ignition key to OFF then start the vehicle.
