Just because you charged the battery doesn't mean it held a charge or is capable of starting the car. To me it sounds like a dead battery or a bad cable. do you have a meter to check the voltage of the battery, if it is below 12 volt you are going to have trouble starting the car. The clicking is a sign of a weak battery or bad starter selenoid, no lights tell me a dead battery or like I said bad cable. Check all the cables from the battery to the starter and ground, look for looseness or corrosion.

If you are saying you have lights now, I was under the impression you didn't but if you have good bright headlights then the battery probably is good. If it is just clicking and not starting then that leads me to the starter selenoid, the little selenoid attatched to the starter. It is not kicking in and allowing the starter to turn over. You need to make sure the motor is turning over, use a breaker bar or a big socket wrench, put it on the bolt to the crankshaft and turn the motor over clockwise to make sure it is not bound up. If the motor turns freely then I would bet on the starter. If you have someone who can watch the headlights when you crank it see if the lights dim a lot when trying if they do the starter may be bound up. If your brave enough you can even cross the terminals of the starter selenoid with a scredriver to see ho it acts, sometimes this can free a stuck starter. Beware though you may see a a lot of sparks while doing this.

1989 ford escort turns over but wont start

if all you did was this...and and put a new battery in and still wont start...if you have went thru your plugs..wires..distributor..ignition coil...made sure your getting spark..if not..check your relays and fuses..preferebly one that deals with spark and timing for injectors..if everything is fine to that point...then try a crankshaft position sensor...it tells the pcm timing for fuel injectors and fire to the ignition coil...hopefully this helps.

I had exactly same thing on my boat recently...which has a car motor in it. And I also charged the battery and I also had a reading that said I had charge. HOwever, I tried another battery from a car and it suddenly worked. Don't know why, but it really was the battery. When I put the old one back in, it still wouldn't start. With a new battery it's fine. Ya just never know why sometimes!! Good luck!

Is there a starter solenoid on a 1998 subaru impreza outback?

first the starter solenoid mostly attached on the starter motor , but sometimes it could be inside the starter motor . the clicking sound you hear is that the solenoid dont recieve enough power to close the contacts . that could happen because a dead battery , red batery red cable ( + ) dameged or not tighted enough . this link will help you http://www.samarins.com/glossary/starter.html if this helped you pls vote for me

97 VW Golf Automatic wont start, battery fully charged

MY guess would be that it's the starter, with an automatic transmission, if the car is not in park or neutral, the car wont even attempt to start, so the clicking sound you say you hear rules that out. Now, im not an "expert" or anything just a guy with some general knowlege, so before you do anything i would recommend having it looked at, but if you feel confident enough, the starter is where i would begin, hope this helps, and good luck.

Car wont start

sounds like you may have an alternater issue if the car dies when you are driveing it could also be the cause of your battery being dead when you go to start it in the morning because the battery may not me getting charged when you are driveing it..... also look on the + side of the battery my pathfinder has some kind of anti theaft wires that have to be connected to the battery and if even one of thows wires wiggle loose it made my truck die (not so exciting when your wife and baby are in the car) so hear a few things i have found with mine let me know if this helps
