Question about 2005 Volvo S40

1 Answer

My son has a 2005 S40 Volvo. About two weeks ago, his wipers stopped working as well as the windshield cleaner! I told him to check the fuses first, however, that model has a "relay fuse" and I don't know how to check that without just replacing it! My next thought is a defective motor and pump to the wipers! It sounds more likely to me to be a fuse problem since the auto sensor does not work as well! I would have to purchase a repair manual for that car since I am not familiar with where things are located in the engine compartment! I would appreciate any assistance you might be able to give me. Thanks, Ed Harris

Thank you for writing all the info needed and the problem to make it easy for me to help you, this problem may be a motor but as like you i dont think the washer and sensor and motor would go out, i have enclosed pictures of the fuse boxes you will need to check, this car has four of them, you will first check the fuse, theres a 30amp fuse located in the engine compartment, you will locate the fuse which controls the wiper module, if theres no power to this module nothing will work, check fuse at location F-17 this will be a 30amp fuse for the wiper module. the diagram will show you the fusebox location and the fuse location, the next place is behind glovebox theres another fuse/relay box, theres a picture of that box also, you will be looking for postion F-48this is the relay for the wipermotor, you will need to swap another relay with the wiper relay to test it.good day and hope this is helpful. My son has a 2005 - johnjohn2_9.png

2005 ford escape wiper and washer has no power. cant hear it engage when on but was working a week ago. how can i troubleshoot it and find the fuse

Hi Justin , Do you know what a SJB - smart junction box is and where it is located on you escape ?
Windshield Wiper Operation
The smart junction box (SJB) supplies power to the multifunction switch from the SJB fuse 25 (20A) when the ignition switch is in the ON or ACC position. The multifunction switch supplies power to the windshield wiper motor for the HIGH or LOW/INTERMITTENT input, depending on the multifunction switch position selected. The SJB also supplies power directly to the windshield wiper motor from fuse 25 (20A) when the ignition switch is in the ON or ACC position for RUN/PARK operation. When the multifunction switch is in the LOW, HIGH, or INTERMITTENT position, power is supplied to the windshield wiper motor, which moves the wipers off the park position. Once the wipers are off the park position, an internal switch in the windshield wiper motor switches to the run/park position which directs power to the wiper switch then back to the wiper motor. This maintains power to the windshield wiper motor to complete the wipe cycle. When the cycle is complete, the internal switch in the windshield wiper motor switches back to the park position. If the multifunction switch is in the LOW or HIGH position, power is supplied from the multifunction switch and another wipe cycle starts. If the multifunction switch is in the INTERMITTENT position, the windshield wipers remain parked until the internal relay in the multifunction switch supplies power to the windshield wiper motor. The internal relay supplies power after a time delay that is determined by the 1 of 9 intermittent switch settings.

That really sounds like a fuse blew for the wipers.
Check your owners manual for fuse box location.

I have a 2005 honda civic.. It has about 130000 miles and the last year the remote stopped working i thought it was the battery to the remote no luck, so i replaced the switch on the manuel lock on the...

Good day to you, based on my experience with my 1997 Honda Civic you may want to check the electrical terminals for both the doors and the wiper motor. I found that over time the copper electrical connections will "corrode" and the seating of the terminals need cleaning. You can purchase a commercial contact cleaner or just use some vinegar and a paint brush. Ensure that the battery is disconnected when using solvents on electrical connectors.
