Question about 1995 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

I have a 1999 Jimmy that I bought used in the middle of winter and never noticed any issue with the heat. Now that it is getting warmer I am roasting all the time! I have the fan off and even when I put the temp on 62 or whatever the lowest setting is there is always HOT air blowing in. The faster I go the hotter it gets in there! It seems that the heat is stuck on and the vents are stuck open. I don't have a lot of money to spend taking it to a mechanic to put it on a machine to diagnose and was hoping someone has had the same problem and can tell me how to fix it.

You could try and pull out the heater controle panel from the dash if it is cable opperated check to make sure the cable is attatched an not broken, if it's vaccum operated you may need to replace the vaccum lines.

Jimmy has problems starting when its cold. the egr code popped can this cause a starting hesitation problem?

Yes the egr valve could cause starting problems. If it is sticking open it would cause a huge vac leak.
I would want to know what the trouble codes are in the computer first. Those codes would help a mechanic nail down the problem area and what to check.

Replace the thermostat

Used to be simple over the years it has gotten harder. First get the hayne or chilton repair manual for your jimmy if your having intermittance over heating problems with your jimmy then yes it could be the thermostat it should be located at the end of the big middle radiator hose going to the top of the engine the metal flange that the hose connects to under it after you take out two of three bolts is the thermostat check out the way it is seated and take the new one you bought and put it in the same way the old one was sitting and put the cover back on.follow the flushing maintence procedures for your Jimmy, good luck

I have a 1999 dodge durango. Just had the motor blower fixed, cause there was no air coming out of the heater or a/c. It worked fine after that and now i just noticed that the heat in there isnt getting as...

It sounds like your thermostat is not working. Your engine should get up to operating temperature in all weather conditions...that's the job of the thermostat.

I am changing the motor in my 1999 Jimmy S15, i bought a motor off craiglist. The motors have same engine code. the only difference is the Detnation sensor is different the one that came out has one wire...

It sounds like you got a 2001 motor. The 1999 and 2000 use the one wire knock sensor and screws into the block, the 2001 has the two wires and bolts to the block. I would think that you could use the one wire sensor screwed into the block of the new motor, but I would verify for sure that everything else with the new motor is compatible with the 1999. I would suspect that there may be some other issues of compatibility. I would check with a GMC dealer, but I think you may have the wrong motor.

Continuous heat coming from vents

You need to have the temperature valve actuator replaced. It's a dealer only part on top of a huge labor fee (about 600). I've been just opening my windows in the winter when it gets too hot... but with spring/summer coming I will have to have it rigged to constantly blowing cool air (and bring a sweater!). Good luck.
