Is it possible to raise engine idle RPM - LeSabre Buick Cars & Trucks

My Engine Stalls out 2 to 3 times a months when shifting gears in making a broken U turn or when Shifting gears to Park the car somewhere. Sometimes I come to a stoplight and it will idle around 5-6000 RPM's. It should be around 6500 RPM. I can feel the slight hesitation.

There is an adjustment screw on the idler assembly, where the wire from the gas pedal connects to the throttle body.

Do i need a compute to the rpm up in a 2002 mitsubishi galant

the computer is preset for rpm at idle it sets the timing -fuel ratio-etc to raise the rpm for what ever reason you would need to reprogram the computer --the transmission-and all sensors are effected also ---none of the programs including racing mess with the idle so you would have to make your own engine management program to raise your idle

You may have a vacuum leak causing unmetered air to enter the engine. Check all vacuum lines/hoses for disconnection issues and for being soft/collapsing. If the leak is large you may hear a hissing noise coming from the area. If the throttle plate is very dirty it can affect base idle and cause the IAC to "hunt" for an idle thus raising and lowering rpm. You can try cleaning this plate with carb spray.

Ford E 150 idols very low installs constantly

I'm sure the engine light must be on, If it has an IAC code it is probably the culprit.

If you have a lean code.... Have you .... ever ... changed the air filter?

Troubleshooting guide

HOT or COLD engine or both?????????
No year, car, and worse, no engine size stated.
IN GENERAL: works on all Gas cars 1988 to now (EFI)

this is easy, once you know EFI .
EFI does many things, it fuels engine, and creates spark
and 10 other things but on is called, idle controls.
it does this 2 ways, 1 is spare advance (fast) and the other is the ISC. the idle speed control valve. (its just and air valve)
so what did you see. you saw, the ISC SYSTEM (note the word system) is failing
that begs the question.
was humpty pushed , or is humpty bad.
it can be either of both if murphy rears his ugly head.
low RPM
The ECU sees this , (by virtue of the RPM sensors) and tries to
open the ISC valve, if it can the valve is dirty, clean it.
if it can and the valve does open and more air flows, and RPM
dont pick up then, the engine is running lean, or the EGR is stuck open.
I can discover the EGR deal with my right toe.
easy, to raise idle , ISC stuck (clean it)
harder, EGR stuck open.
impossible is gross fueling issues, or worse.

that is how i tell ...
no some exceptions.
if the TPS is not signaling, Im at idle, no idle controls are possible.
or if the ECU/PCM is in LIMPHOME mode, idle controls can be suspeneded.
so not scanning all bad running engines, misses the boat.
i can got to great details but cant due to no year, or engine stated

The year and engine tells me, what fuel controls are used.
some are air density others are speed density systems and
work 100% opposite to each other,,, thus my pause...........

Charge at idle only

Your alternator is faulty. A properly working alternator produces 13.5 to 14.5 volts at idle and raised rpm's. The battery itself is 12 volts and a raised rpm demands more electrical power, therefore your drop.

What is the correct idle RPM for Durango 1998 5.2 L

Doing the opposite of what it should. Don't know, but the idle should be awful close to 800 on a warmed engine. You may have a vacuum leak causing your high idle. Check all your vacuum hoses for condition and proper routing. Pull one hose off and create a vacuum leak. It should cause your idle to raise. If it doesn't change the idle, there may already be a vacuum leak. By spraying carburetor cleaner around suspect areas, you can also find vac. leaks. The spray will be sucked into engine and change the rpm's.
Other possible causes might be a sensor ( CTS?TPS?) or an idle control valve, or some other computer controlled part.

1987 ford tempo 2.3 Litre fuel injected will idle

this sometimes occurs with age due to egr and intake becoming carbon filled , inturn requireing more vacuum inturn raising rpm to keep up , check all vac lines for poss leaks this will cause prob , to check for leaks crank engine let idle use can of wd40 or starting fluid and spray lightly around suspected area , if rpms raise when u spray then u have found ur leak

My car slams when put into drive. is it the idle

Yes, sounds like the idle speed is too high. If you keep driving like that, you will fry the torque converter / turbine. Since idle is computer controlled, you will have to take it for service tune up. There is one possibility that the rich, high rpm idle used for cold start is not disengaging properly after the engine warms up. Air conditioning will raise the idle speed by a couple hundred rpm, so avoid using it until you have the problem fixed. BTW.....warm engine rpm in idle, and neutral should be around 700-800. Anything over 900-1100 will result in a hard shift into 1st gear and dragging at stop lights.
