Question about 2003 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

Which replacement parts do I need if the check engine diagnostic reads egr system default on a 2003 chevy impala

1 Answer

Doesn't work that way

Diagnostic Codes, do not tell you
what is wrong or what to replace

You use the codes to find the system issues
first.

When the actuator malfunctions, the engine gets no signal for idling speed and stops working. Clogged or restricted EGR Valve: If your EGR valve is clogged, dirty, or defective it can cause your car to stall, idle erratically, or sputter, depending on whether it is stuck open or closed. I have a 2003 Chevy impala 3.4 Lthe check engine light is on it's really hard to start and if I'm at a stop light it will Stoll it runs really ruff I changed the spark plugs, fuel filter, coil, please help

Have the computer scanned for codes. If the light is on there are codes in the system. This will make it much easier to figure out.

Your local cal parts store may be able to get those codes for you. often times for free. DO NOT BUT ANYTHING THEY TRY TO SELL YOU! Post the codes in the comments below and I'll help you get this figured out.

Other options for getting codes.

OBDII code readers are available just about anywhere that sells tools or parts. A basic one will run you about $100.

your local repair shop will likely have a menu priced diagnostic fee. This includes pulling codes and testing of components to pinpoint the failure. You can figure about $100 for this service.

I have a 2003 chevy impala i changed the egr valve and my check engine light is still coming on and a part store read my code and it said egr valve what else could be the problem

The code in the ECU might not have reset after you changed the EGR. Try unhooking the battery and let the car sit for a couple minutes and then hook it back up and see if the light goes away.

there is a large evaporative leak. keep away form ottozoo, they dont have the brain power to actually diagnose a light bulb., their job is to sell parts., if they sell you the wrong parts tough.Take it to a qualified repair shop that does a lot of GM work or the dealer.
