Question about Ford Taurus

1 Answer

I have a antifreeze leak on the driver side. Its back under the engine. It seems like a hose but I cant find a schematic anywhere for antifreeze lines. My reserve tank was completely empty. It is a 2003 and weve had a leak for awhile but havent been able to locate it. Now I can see it dripping. Please help.

Most likely its a core plug on the back of the engine ,once cured only use antifreeze and do not drain it in the summer .Lift bonnet and have a good look and if need be take it to local mechanic to lift on a four poster lift and look from underneath

It sure sounds like the heater core, especially if you have water leaking inside the cabin. The two heater hoses only go from the engine to the firewall, and do not go into or through the firewall. They connect to the heater core right at the firewall.
Check carefully around the back side of the engine and the heater hoses, though. If a freeze plug is leaking, water will be dripping off the bottom of the engine. If it is leaking before the firewall, that would not be the heater core.

How to check for leaks of antifreeze/in 97 expedition smell of antifreeze

Hi Sharlene,so you smell antifreeze.Raise your hood and check your antifreeze over flow container, you should have a l and a h mark on it,high and low.If low, then it's leaking somewhere, look at the radiator cap and overflow hose for leak, look at over flow container for leak from hose going to it from radiator, look all over engine, look at top and bottom radiator hoses and clamps for leaks,if leaking there, tighten clamp with flat head screw driver,if no leak is found, get under vehicle and see if any antifreeze is visible, maybe water pump, look on ground for leak and follow, check floor board on driver side, heater core could be bad, check hoses going to heater core from engine firewall.

Antifreeze Leak - '99 Chrysler 300M

what you do is go to a radiator specialist shop and have a coolant pressure test done
most probably a cracked top plastic tank
as for the leak at the back , it could be a rusty welsh plug but the pressure test will also show that

My 99 Sierra eats up antifreeze like crazy but it isn't leaking into the oil and I haven't been able to find an external leak. I also have a misfire problem on my number 3 cylinder but I don't know if it's...

I would venture to say you have a bad head gasket on the driver's side, or a bad head. The antifreeze is probably entering #3 cyl. Lucas makes a stop leak for around $30 a bottle. I'd give it a shot and change the second spark plug back on the driver's side.

If your antifreeze is leaking into your engine oil, it will destroy the engine quickly. Check the level of both. But...you need to get a pressure gauge on it to apply pressure to the cooling system to see where the coolant is going first. White smoke is a sign of coolant in the engine oil.

Antifreeze wont stay in car leaking for bottom

You need to look closely at the hose connections, freeze plugs, and the water pump. Water pumps are designed so that when the shaft bearing wears out, they leak from a small hole under the pulley shaft. Sometimes they will only leak while the engine is running. Freeze plugs can rust through causing a leak usually from the side of the engine. Hoses can leak from anywhere. You'll probably have to get under the engine to narrow down the possibilities. You may also want to rent a tool to pressurize the cooling system. That might help you to see where the leak is coming from. If you've never changed a water pump or a freeze plug before, you might be better off taking it to a professional. If it's just a hose, you could probably do that yourself. I hope this was helpful. Thanks.

93 lincoln town car leaking antifreeze down back of engine

there is a small heater hose on the pass side rear from the firewall(heater core) to the intake manifold. the plastic manifolds have a tendency to split where the hose fitting goes into the intake. If that is where it is leaking the manifold needs replacement.
