What is the symptom???

if the head gasket were going, you would notice one of the following: coolant dripping from the exaust at start-up, smoke from the exaust, murky or bubbly oil from coolant mixing with oil, oily, brown film on top of radiator fluid from oil mixing with coolant.

if it only overheats when sitting still/idling then the problem is your electronic fan is not switching on.

if it loses coolant only during cold weather, and you notice your heater smelling funny, then it could be a hole in your heater core.

he could be right about the heads but he may have put the thermostat in wrong and instead of opening it is blocking the coolant flow causing the overheating
The time span quoted is about right for a thermostat to start opening

Sounds like you may have a head gasket problem. These engines were known for having head gaskets go bad which would pump engine exhaust into the cooling system causing it to overflow

Where is the themostat on 2000 cadillac deville

hi. On a 4.9L follow the upper radiator back to the engine. This should be the thermostat housing. The thermostat should be inside.
On a 4.6L the thermostate is in the housing which is near the water pump drivebelts "on the coolant crossover housing". If this is not clean I recommend you buy the Haynes for your DeVille. See page 3-4, illustration 3.14.

Cannot find overheating problem 1997 cadillac deville. we have installed new radiator, fans work fine, new water pump, new thermostat, catalyic converter, new hoses, and we cannot find any leaks. please...

These engines are know for leaking head gaskets. A good quick test for this is fill the coolant tank to the top with the cap off. Start the engine. If the the coolant blows out of the tank, you have a head gasket leak.

Changing the thermostat 2000 cadillac deville

The pressure they work within is usualy information on your radiator cap or owners hand book.Your thermostat should be a 180 degree but can vary The 180 is in reference to the heat required to open them so water can flow through and be kept at a more or less constant 180.There are other temp ranges for a wide variety of applications and 180 is the standard one for most vehiclesThe radiaor and water system is pressurised to lower the boiling point of the water The higher the pressure the lower the boiling point
