Question about 1988 Jeep Cherokee

1987 Jeep grand cherokee limited edition (diko_nal)

Thanks for your previous answer, but when the car dies, it doesn't need a jumpstart, simply put it in park, turn off, turn back on, ready to go, sometimes the car chokes when i try to turn it on, but it usually does come back on. i should have posted it before, but i did have the alternator and it's connections checked, everything seems to be correctly placed under the hood

im not too keen on the mechanical language, but it does eventually manage to turn on

that's ok if you don't know all the mechanical terms, I'm just trying to understand what the symptoms are that are causing the jeep to stall. I believe you have the V-6 engine. I think 87 was the last year it was used. Do you know if your jeep is the V-6? (six cylinder). I don't think the 4 cylinder engine is common in the Limited Cherokee.countrycurt0

diko nal, you say 'sometimes the car chokes when you try to turn it on', can you explain exactly what you mean? I think you mean the engine turns over, but won't start. If this is correct, how long do you have to crank it over to start it when this happens.countrycurt0

Replace the crankshaft sensor.
That's a good place to start.

Disconnecting your battery, as you must've done when changing the starter, will cause the ecu to revert to factory settings and the computer will have to relearn the proper idle for your jeep.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. My drivers side front power seat does Not stay adjusted. Every time I turn the ignition on the seat moves backward and the back lays down.

The limited edition brings memory setting for mirrors and seats, it recognizes which key are you putting in the ignition and puts the saved setting accordingly to that driver's key. That is the reason your seat keeps moving. You need to reprogram the seat position for that key. Good luck

Look for the electrical plung switch which is usually at the front hood corners. Trace the wire back towards the latch.

Most larger parts stores carry either chilton or haynes manuals. They are far from perfect and their wiring diagrams are pretty much junk, but overall the do have enough info for most basic and some not so basic repairs. Chilton also offers a download for pay which is better but unless you are doing major complex repair work, likely you won't need it.

when the jeep dies, do you have to jump start it? If the new battery is being drained, the alternator must not be charging properly and should be replaced. Countrycurt0
