You may have a wet distributor cap.if moisture or "water" gets inside the distributor cap the engine will quit runnining due to moisture getting inside. you can bag the distributor cap with a plastic bag and tape. the dealer installs sheilds to prevent such things from happening but they may have been removed from a previous owner. if the engine dies after going through puddles when raining, this is your problem, wet distributor. bag the distributor, and duct tape the plastic bag around your distributor cap and this problem will be solved. garage most likely knew this and ignored your diagnostic or did'nt tell technician of your existing problem. when you open the hood and add water as in washing your engine,it will die. same thing as driving your car in the rain if the splash guards are removed,it will die due to a wet distributor cap.hope this helps AND thank you for choosing fixya.com

The spark plugs needs to be checked and cleaned. If the plugs get wet then ,it can cause misfiring. The coils needs to be checked. If the coils are weak, then it can cause the misfiring.Get the spark plugs and coil plugs removed and cleaned then check, if the same problem is noticed, then check the voltage at each spark plug and coil.If the voltage checked low, then it has to be replaced. If the plugs and coil are already replaced and still the same problem is noticed, then other possibility for misfiring is injector could be bad. They don't fail as often as a coil, but they do fail.--------- you can also test the fuel injectors:-----

Put a long screwdriver directly on the injector while the car is running. Hold the handle up to your ear. You should be able to hear a rhythmic clicking sound. If you do, your injector is good. Hearing a clunk-clunk type noise means you have found your problem. Hearing silence or unusual clicking patterns means either the injector, wires or plunger may be bad or sticking. You will either have to clean or replace them.---------

Try this possibilities. This will point towards the fault.Get it properly checked. This will help.keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

Did you got all the cylinders rechecked and spark plugs rechecked. Is there exact voltage showing up.Re-check and get it confirmed. Also the get the ignition checked and confirmed. Is the injector leaking or any injector is blocking the fuel or its cracked.Recheck and confirm.

Why does my check engine light keep coming on for the same codes?

Cylinder #2 is misfiring (P0302) and the Trib is Misfiring at startup (P0316). Mazda Tributes and Ford Escapes are notorious for cylinders going bad. You can either change each cylinder as it decreases in performance, or suck it up and do them all at once.

What causes 2005 2.5l volvo to misfire and show code random multiple misfires i replaced plugs but no good

I would take it back and demand a refund. Could be the crank or cam sensors, an intake leak, faulty coil, or a list of other components.

I have yellow check engine light on in my 2008 kia rio and just took it to autozone and they ran a scan on it said misfire cylinder 1whats that mean and how can i fix it ?

I had the same problem with the engine misfire on my 2006 Kia Rio, I took it to 5 garages, I took it to Kia, they were all ****, and had no answer to the misfiring of my engine, yes the "engine light" came on all the time, and sometimes the engine light stayed on.

They all tried flushing the fuel injectors, well that didn't work, and they were confused why it didn't work and said that they couldn't fix it, some said it was a piston, and you might have to overhaul the engine, after that and lots of money spent I had the same problem and thought to myself, well that was one ******** theory, they were so bemused by the whole misfiring of this engine and said they couldn't fix it.

They ran lots of computer tests on my car with a misfiring code that showed up, but a code is just a code with no step by step instructions to fix the problem, no one couldn't fix the misfiring problem.

$1500 later I was about to give up until my sister said that she had found a descent mechanic, told him about my problem and told me to bring my car in.

Well to my amazement, he found the problem, the misfire was caused by the coil that had been shortening (an electrical shortening), and there was evidence of a burn mark on the coil, well he changed the whole coil and changed the spark plug leads and now the car doesn't misfire and works great - I hope this is a solution to your misfiring problem, I thought I would share my story about my Kia Rio misfiring problem - Have a great day everyone.

Have a 2000 ford explorer with a 5.0 V8 in the rain the other day started to skip and it shows cylinders 1 and 6 not firing. |Drove it two hour strait trip day before and it ran great. It ran great until...

It could be the coil, or the ignition module where there coils sit on. Start with the simple and check the spark plug wire first, then work your way to the coils and module. Once you work your way to the coils, try switching the coils around and see if the misfire will switch cylinders which would indicate a bad coil. If the same cylinders are still misfiring after the coils have been switch, then it's a good chance that's it's going to be the wire harness to the ignition module or the module it self. Good luck and hope this helps.

1992 Plymouth Voyager won't start after it rains

I don't know if this is the same, but I used to have a 87 Chrysler LeBaron. It ran great until you washed it or it started raining. Then it would die and it wouldn't start until 2 or 3 days later after it dried out. I took it to the shop several times, they always said it was the fuel pump. It turned out to be the wiring that runs next to the battery, had the insulation eaten away from battery acid over the years. I wrapped the wiring next to the battery in a piece of plastic and I never had another problem with it. Sounds cheesy I know, but it was ironic that several shops looked at it and couldn't figure it out. As far as white smoke that might be a differant problem.
