Question about 2001 Pontiac Sunfire

2 Answers

I have a leak in the top of my feul tank and they say it's going to cost $300. Just to drop the tank and look at the problem and if it's what they think it is ( a hose needing to be replaced) that could cost me an additional $400. Is it simple to change a fuel hose on a pontiac sunfire?

Rust usually happens You can purchase used tank from junk yard if needed .the tank is not bad to drop if you have patience take filler neck loose there is 2 bolts thru the straps that hold tank up once they are out straps swing down and tank falls be careful with fuel lines sometimes special tools are needed to release fuel lines.Easier when tank is empty

It bogg down on full throttle and gas leak on top of the tank while running

if you have a fuel leak from top of tank then it could be a fuel line or O ring leaking, which can cause a drop in fuel pressure causing it to bog down. if its a steel fuel tank the tank could be rotted out. either way fix fuel leak first and go from there.

It may just be the fuel pump seal at the top of the tank. it has to be dropped for a definite diagnosis. It is rare but the tank seams occasionally crack too. Good luck.

My 05 300c hemi is leaking drops of gas from gas tank near the fuel pump what could be the problem?

Your problem is no doubt that either the pump gasket is leaking or the filler tube connector or check the return fuel pipe to the tank from the engine or the breather if on top of tank (some are some arnt) or a small pinprick hole in the bottom but check out the pump gasket first as that is the most common thing.

Feul pump not working on a daewoo matiz

Need to replace it. It is located in the gas tank. Drain the gas as much as possible and then drop the gas tank. Disconnect the leads on the top of the fuel tank where sending unit is and unscrew. Remove and place fuel pump.

Fuel leaking from top of gas tank

sounds like you are going to have to drop the tank out to inspect and fix. with luck it will be leaking from the fuel pump seal or the return line.
Bad luck would be if the tank is rusted out and needs to be replaced.
Syphon as much gas out of the tank as you can before you drop it , gas is heavy.

Yeah, The fuel tank is going to have to be dropped.
The seal around the fuel pump be careful to not damage it.
You may need a special tool to take off the nut that secures the fuel pump . I would take to a shop if it seems to hard to tackle.

Good Luck

Monster fuel leak

if the gas is leaking from the top of the tank, 10 to 1 it's either the fuel line, or the top part of the sending unit which is probably made of plastic, is cracked where the fuel line connects to.The tank should be empty or near it, easier to drop, loosen the tank strap bolts towards the front, then remove the rear ones one at a time, as you take the last rear bolt out, the tank should drop a little. Becarful of the wire connection and fuel line, drop it slowly enough to reach in and disconnect them.If the unit has a plastic hose connection, it needs replacing. good luck.
