Question about Kia Rio

1 Answer

2006 kia rio check engine lamp came on then about 3 miles later engine just quit, I am a tech so I narrowed down to the fuel pump and replaced that however I noticed that when the ignition key is in the "on" position the fuel pump used to run to prime the fuel system this new pump does not do that, it would only turn on when the engine is in cranking mode, I have triple checked all the fuses in under the dash and in the left hand side of the engine compartment all are fine anywhere else i can look ? I am sure there is something else not letting the pump be on when in the "on" mode

I removed the relay (which has power to 2 of the 5 legs as it should) i swapped with other good same working relays, no change, dose this system have to run thru some other type of sensors ? the injector fuse is good too, the only time the fuel pump check terminal has power is when in cranking mode and before it used to have when ignition switch in the on position.

Get the fuel pump relay checked. The fuel pump relay is located in the engine compartment fuse box, under the hood. The relay ground is connected to the ECM.So if this relay is faulty, then it will not let the fuel pump to get started.Fuse is checked ok, but relay has to be checked. This relay parts are not very costly. There are three relays in the fuse box under hood in engine compartment.Check each relay, also try by passing the relay and connecting fuel pump directly to external battery and see, if fuel pump starts and runs.-------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

A fuel pump relay takes control of the fuel pump during engine startup, but shuts itself off after the engine is running. An oil pressure mechanism resumes control of the fuel pump after the fuel pump relay shuts off and the vehicle's engine is running. The ECM controls the fuel pump and will cycle the pump on once during key on. If the ECM doesn't see oil pressure, it disables the fuel pump.---------

The relay should stay on , In your case relay is getting on, when you crank, then it gets off . The relay activates for 3 seconds when the ignition is on, then turns off by it self, cutting off the 12v required to activate the fuel pump, maf and oxygen sensor. And due to this fuel not flowing.Directly by pass the relay and connect fuel pump to external 12 volt battery source, then crank and engine and see, if the fuel pump runs, then its relay problem. The grounds to the relay are not connected properly. The relay ground is connected to ECM.But if still the fuel pump not starting then, its ECM related fault. The ECm is faulty. It has to be scanned.--------

    check out.This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Kia Rio5 is hard to start and stalls after getting fuel no matter how much and the check engine light is on

Get your codes pulled for the Check engine light (CEL).

Sounds like a fuel delivery issue... possibly the fuel pump or a dirty fuel line\injector.

First thing to check is the code.

I HAVE A 2005 KIA RIO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TOOK TO THE KIA SERVICE AND THE CODE SAID CYLINDER MISFIRE TOOK IT BACK 3 TIMES AND THEY STILL COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, ENGINE RUNS ROUGH AFTER...

Take it to another shop and have them do a compression check. If the compression is low, you have found the problem. If the compression is the same as the other cylinders, trade the fuel injector at that cylinder with another cylinder and see if the problem moves. If the problem moves (misfire code in different hole), the injector is bad. If the problem didn't move, and the compression is fine, then you have a vacuum leak on the intake runner to that cylinder, possibly the intake gasket. Print this and give it to your new mechanic.

My car quit running driving down the road, does a 2005 kia rio have a timing belt?

Yes it does have a timing belt but should be checked for fuel pressure and spark. How many miles are on this engine?
