Ranger has 220,000 miles on it, runs great. Just started having difficulty getting it to go into gear (manual 5 speed. If I shift through the gears , it seems things line up adn then I'm able to get it to go into gear. Throwout bearing seems to be disengaging okay. Feels more like shifter's not aliogning with gears. Thanks for your help!

HI,first i would check the lube in the tranny.Drain it in a clean container. So you can see how much metal shavings are in it.This will give you some kind of indication of the internals. Then look through the inspection hole to see if the pressure plate fingers are bent or any other clutch component damage.Good Luck!!!

2003 Focus zx5 with a 5 speed manual. Yesterday after driving about 50 miles it became more and more difficult to push into all gears but would go if forced. Clutch worked and could drive it but could hear...

The transmission has synchronisers to help line up the gears when you shift from one gear to another. If this transmission has been treated rough or rawhided and speed shifted, these synchroniser clips become bent and turn up and won't allow the synchroniser to slid over them into place and hold the transmission in gear. Eventually you will have to replace them. You will notice if you take it easy when shifting, it will get easier. Don't get in a hurry and jam the shifter or it will just get worse and they will have to be replaced. I hope you better understand how your shifter work. I hope you can buy some time before you have to put a fair amount of money it to it.
Good Luck.

Have a manual transmission in our 04 Ranger. 500

You could have a problem with the clutch actuation system. It could be the master or the slave cylinder. Does the clutch pedal feel funny? Look under the steering column and locate the pushrod at the top of the clutch pedal. If it is wet where it goes through the firewall, then the master cylinder needs to be repaired/replaced. Raise the hood and check the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir and refill if necessary. Look under the truck and locate the slave cylinder on the side of the transmission. If it looks wet (oily), replace it. Bleed the system of air bubbles.

It is possible to drive the truck without a clutch. You have to start it in 1st gear. Accelerate gently, then take your foot off the gas and gently pull the gear shift into 2nd. When the engine rpm drops to match the transmission input speed, 2nd gear will engage. Repeat the process with 3rd through 5th. It will take a little practice to do this well, but you can do it.
