sounds like the rod that travels from the ignition to the switch on the column under dash is bent or the switch is out of place. Remove panel below column above gas pedal and check or replace that switch where it attaches to the column under the dash and half-way down the column.

The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.
NOTEOn column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible.
On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash.

How do u take a ignition switch out of a 1995 ford areostar

pull the steering wheel and remove the loc plate with a tool and look for the screw that holds ignition cyl in the housing remove it and pull the key switch out! however if it's (THE) ignition switch under the column? take the bottow cover plate off under the dash sround the column tube and remove the mount bolts and lower the column you will need a 5/16 wrench to unbolt the (ACTUAL) switch which soo many!! people confuse with the ignition key ! (TUMBLER) assmbly in the top of the column

New starter but car wont start

funny...you have just told me what is wrong with it!!!
check power in, power out at the ignition switch...likely it has failed. switch is on the top of the steering column under the dash and is sometimes easier to reach if you disconnect the column from the dash and permit the sterering wheel to rest on the seat.

Engine will not shut off.

Have u checked the actuator linkage from the ignition lock cylinder down to the ignition switch on top of the steering column near the bottom under the dash? de-trim the steering column, there are four screws that hold the 2 halves of the cover on the column u access them from the lower cover, feel for the access holes with your finger, then u must drop the column down from the dash connection/support by removing the support screws to the column under the dash, they are 15mm, the cover screws i mentioned are Phillips head.
