Engine warning light came on yesterday in my 2005 S-Type R Jaguar. Can it be as simple as changing an air filter?

You can get a free scan at Autozone, Oreillys, or Advance autoparts. I have not heard of a warning light from an Air filter. There are some indicators in the Maintainence Minder for some vehicles in the drop-down Menu. This usually is for Oil Change intervals and is not the same light as a "check engine" warning.

Once set, the "Check" light usually has to be cleared or it will continue to show the old problem after it is fixed, for about 35 Start-ups. This means that unless the system is reset with a scanner, it will be some time before you know if your repair was successful. Most likely you have another problem which could be anything from a bad O2 Sensor to a loose gascap.

I hope you take my advice about the scan and that you found my solution very helpful.

oh yes,,,its the engine management light telling you its time for a service,,,,dont over look this, or the next thing to go wrong will be the engine fuel pump and if that packs up you will need to sell your sole to pay for the fix,,, this car needs to be serviced on time every time or it just wont last very long
so in short have a full service done on it fast

Replace cabin pollen filter 2005 jaguar xkr

To get to the cabin air filter on an XK8 or XKR, you have to do the following steps (I know these steps sound in many cars there is just a simple cover in the engine compartment... but...): The air filter is under the black plastic cowl or plenum that is just under the windshield wiper blade connectors. To get to that, you must 1. carefully lift off the plastic covers that reveal screw heads. Remove the screws. 2. lift off the plastic covers that are on the top of each windshield wiper connector - under the cover you will then see a nut or bolt that has to be unscrewed. 3. Using a small puller (the puller that lifts off battery terminals works for this) lift off each windshield wiper and disconnect the rubber hose from each. 3. lift the car's front hood, and remove the plastic cowling (you also have to lift the side rubber runners and a rubber strap from each side that holds up the rubber drain hoses). Once you remove that plastic cowling, you will see the air filter plenum at the back of the engine area. The air filter should come vertically out of that. (This air filter does not exist on my 2000 and earlier editions...I am not sure what year Jaguar installed them.) Full instructions are on the Jaguar JTIS CD which you should obtain...look online for that.

Jaguar glow plug problem

The Glow plug coming on, and the car going into limp home mode, is a default safety feature that occurs when the engine management system picks up any kind error message from the many sensors now used on the car.
I've found the glow plug light problem with my Jag, it was the air filter. Apparently Jaguar servicing change it every 3rd service (not a good idea). I changed mine, it is a new car. I had the EPR valve cleaned and a major diagnostic carried out by a local garage (who had the Jag diagnostic software). It turns out I also need a new Turbo; the actuator is sticking (£759.00 plus 3 hours labour). But hey, the main limp home mode problem is fixed and I can drive my Jag confident it will accelerate when press the gas.
