Question about Chevrolet Metro

1 Answer

I just purchased a 96 metro geo, has 47,500 miles on it. While test driving it, the fan (air/heater) worked for a few minutes then stopped. Did it again. Could it be the switch or do you think it's the motor going?

It is most likely the switch or the blower motor or the speed control resistor assy or solid state speed control, not sure which you have, check the blower first ( when it stops running) then the switch with a 12 volt test light to see if voltage is present. does this happen at all blower speeds??

I have a 91 Geo Metro an the heater has stoped working an would like to know were it is located

its in the heater box, right dash.
1: fan blow full speed? (heater fan?)
2: does engine hold and reach 180F ?
3: when you slide the hot cold lever. does its end of able move?
and does it move the damper flap from closed to open(open is hot)
knowing these simple facts, allows diagnosis.

I have 96 geo metro drove 15 miles and just died on me... Will not, start replaced dist. And dist cap and button, coil is getting power fuel is gettin to plugs, tried starter fluid but still nothin, fire is...

Depending on mileage, Geo's have timing belt and it should be changed every 60k, if you've done all that's mentioned I suspect timing belt is broken.

Overheats, fan doesn't run

check fuse and relay, check your coolant to make sure it isn't low, Can you jump the fan to see if the fan will work? If fan works, possibly coolant sensor.

When i start my 1997 Geo Metro, it often sputters

Try this
Here are the most common causes of surges, stalls at stops, low erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
