2002 dodge diesel Temperature gauge not working, have changed Coolant temperature sensor, still not working

possibly change the wrong unit
gauges work from a sender unit not a sensor
it is located next to the thermostat housing normally and has only 1 wire connection
they work by having power through the gauge to the sender through variable resistance that is affected by heat to ground
test disconnect the wire from the sender
turn on the ignition key , ground out the wire and the gauge should go straight to full hot
sensors on the other hand have more wires and relay the coolant temp to the ECM so that air/fuel ratios can be adjusted , and fans switched on as required

I have a 1992 toyota paseo and the temperature gauge doesnt give me the correct temperature

there could be a faulty temperature sender or the connections can be dirty in the plug that goes on it clean it first and see what happens if this doesn't work buy a new one if that doesn't work you might not have a thermostat installed and the gauge stays down and only sometimes raises a little then drops down again

Are you getting heat?If so then the temp. sensor is faulty. It's a cheap fix for what you have already done

Thermostat may not be working properly, hot coolant has to circulate via the heater core in order to get heat. Normally operation temperation should be 180 to 200 degrees.

Temperature gauge don't work..

Sounds like you may have a problem with your coolant temperature sending unit or thermostat, locate your sending unit, unplug the electrical connector run a jumper wire across the 2 wires inside the connector the gauge should read hot when the jumper wires are connected and when you remove the jumper wire it should go back to cold this verifies your gauge and all related wiring are working properly, if it doesnt work as described you either have a wiring problem or a bad temp gauge, next if your heater output is suffering you more then likely have a weak thermostat staying open or partially open replace the thermostat with a new unit, however if you arent experiencing any heater trouble replace your coolant temperature sending unit because your thermostat is more then likely working properly.....

Teampreature gauge not working

Sounds like you have installed a 'over-temperature switch' type sender unit- this type of sensor is only meant to control an over-temperature alarm indicator lamp that is either 'on' or 'off'.

The temperature gauge requires a 'variable resistance type' temperarure sensor to control the meter deflection.
When cold the temperature sensor is of high resistance, hence less meter deflection;
when hot temperature sensor is of low resistance, hence more meter deflection.

You need to procure a matching sensor to suit the type of gauge installed.

Is it possible you have connected to the temperature wrong temperature sensor? - most vehicles are fitted with both a gauge type (variable resistance) sensor to drive the temperature gauge, as well as a switch type (on or off) sensor to drive the overtemp indicator light.

Temp gauge doesn't work

Replace your temperature sending unit. Actually it does matter if it doesnt work. You wont know if it has overheated until it is too late and you have blown a head gasket.

good luck.

Temperature gauge is high but radiatior fan is working

how is the radiator and the thermostat?  Do the cooling fans come on?  Are you totally filling the cooling system and bleeding it?

Temperature stays at 100 and doesnt go up during operation

If the gauge is correct, you may have a thermostat stuck open.Check and replace the thermostat.Your vehicle needs to run a certain temperature for the computer to switch to and operate correctly in closed loop mode..Good Luck!!!
