Hi, replace the flasher. It's below the instrument panel, left of the steering column. Looks like the picture below.

    have 2 of these side by side on my 97 galant, they are beside the fuse panel under the drivers side dash, could not get either of them loose to remove, plastic fuse cover says they are relays? Is one of them the turn signal flasher ? which one if yes and how can I remove it.
    Pulled on one of them and the cover pulled off, saw a relay .

    Can you advise

    Thanks

    Hi, I'm going to guess these are the flashers--one for the hazards and one for the turns. They should pull out. If you have to, slip a thin screwdriver under and turn it to pry the flasher up. It looks like a relay inside, but there is additional circuitry inside to make it flash.

    where do i find the one that is bad to pull out and oput the new one in?

  • sierra Aug 02, 2013

Found a mitchells manual for foreign cars 1997 (Electrical) looked up the wiring diagram for this Model and it showed the flasher unit, just one and its for both, directionals and flashers. The 2 other look alike flasher units near fuse panel are relays for the defroster and fan ! The flasher for hazard/directionals is not near the fuse panel nor the steering column. Its under IP drivers side above the hood release cable. Flasher unit is good, fuse is good, apparently turn signal/lights swith attached to steering column is the problem !

SOURCE: turn signals won't work 1997 Galant

Turn signals don't use a fuse, they use a flasher unit that turns them on and off. First I am going to assume that you have checked your bulbs front and rear. Next turn on your hazard lights to see if they work. If they do go ahead and leave them on. Most cars have two flasher units, one for turn signals, the other for the hazard lights. The nice thing is that they normally use the same ones and can be swapped. Using the sound of the hazards turning off and on, you should be able to find and see both units, or at least they will be very close to each other. Now just reverse them and hpefully you now have turn sigs.

There is no fuse box cover inside of 1991 galant to see where the turn signal relay is? Where can I find free diagram to locate what fuse is what?

hello, turn signal relay is round, it plugs into your fuse panel, it should be the size of a quarter round, you have relay for brakes and turn signals, both are round, and they are only about 1 inch to inc half long, eay to spot them, they are only two round plastic things that plugs into fuse box,

Hi there;
Here is the picture of the fuse block under the left side of the insrument panel. the fuse you are looking for should be #17, #8 is also involved & also #8 in the fuse panel under the hood. I tried to send you the wiring diagram but the program won't allow it.
