What causes my car ****. could that be my fuel pump

If the jerking happens under load (accelerating on the highway, going up a hill), it could be your fuel pump, but more likely your fuel FILTER.
If the jerking happens at higher RPM, it is more likely a misfire from a bad spark plug wire, fouled spark plug, or bad coil pack,
If you notice a smell of raw fuel when the vehicle is idling, make sure that your air filter is clean.
If the "Check Engine" light is on, have a local auto parts store connect an ODB sensor to determine what code is being generated.

Popping/chugging when accelarating

Most commonly, this is a fuel delivery problem. Things to check in this order: 1) Fuel Filter 2) Fuel System Pressure Regulator (on the fuel rail at the engine); 3) Fuel Pump.

Sounds like a basic cylinder miss-fire. Common issues are spark plugs, wires, coil, and fuel injectors,

There is a variety of causes possible:

- spark plugs fouled or worn (likely after about 50000 km)
- low fuel pressure (maybe)
- ignition timing not correct (an ECU problem, is there any check engine light?)
- air leak into the intake manifold (the most likely)

These engines develop a split in the big hose from the air cleaner to the air flow body. Look for that first.

Best to read out any codes from the computer by taking the truck to AutoZone or similar business that allow free scans of the computer. From the symptoms, I would guess fuel delivery problems--fuel filter/fuel pump--but read the codes first. Hope this helps!

My jeep jerks auto 4 door

The cheapest solution is to check the fuel injectrors (use good fuel injectro cleaner). If no help check the distributor cap (best is replace), wiring (replace), spark plugs (replace). In most cases the reason is distributor cap. If no help check the fuel filter and fuel pump
Good Luck
