Question about 1999 BMW 328 Series

1999 bmw 328i just recently started locking by itself all the time now and today it acted as if the battery was dead and jumped it it was fine battery was fine holds a load alternator is charging the system does anyone have any ideas?

    1999 bmw 328i just recently the doors started locking all the time and i had one instance when the windows went up all on its own when i left them down in the drive way. and a few weeks later it acted as if the battery was dead. jumped it drove it for ten minutes checked battery was charged and was holding a load. charging system was charging at 14vdc. i think my general control module is going out. does anyone have any good ideas

Hi,
This is a problem with your security lock/unlock system. You need to reset this and then if you still have problems you need to have it diagnosed with a BMW diagnostic tool.
Only when this is done that you will be able to diagnose weather the trouble is with the security module or some other component within the lock/unlock system.

You may have an intermittent short in the power door lock switch, or the wiring
near or leading to it. An intermittent short of this type would account for both the
symptoms (1) car locking itself, and (2) a short that intermittently drains the battery

Removal & Installation - power door locks


E30 Models

1. Remove the door panel and the water shield.

2. Disconnect the wiring from the actuator. Remove the screws and pull the actuator off the linkage.

3. When installing, move the actuator and linkage to the locked position.

4. Connect the linkage to the actuator and loosely install with the screws.

5. Compress the actuator drive to take out any play in the linkage and tighten the screws.

6. Test the locks and install the door panel.



E36 Models

1. Remove the door panel and water shield.

2. On the front doors, remove the guide rail nut and pull the guide rail down. Disconnect the wiring and the linkage from the actuator.

3. On the rear doors, remove the window and the access panel. Disconnect the wiring and the linkage from the actuator.

4. Remove the 3 bolts holding the latch and actuator to the door structure.

5. Install in reverse order using threadlocker on the bolts.

Would a lose serpentine belt cause wierd electrical issues inside car? Its a 1999 328i bmw (e46) the inside indicator lights not working, remote key stopped working


not real likely unless battery is goin dead and alt.is bad.Chech the small ground cable attached close to battery on the frame.i have had this problem recently and seen it happen alot.its a small black wire and usually their are sometimes other grounds to body at rear of engine.any of these can make guages act up then stop and headlights go out or all lights and speedometer stop.all kinds of weird things,dim interior light,dash light so on,hope you fet it.

Battery was dead . recharged battery. bmw 328i wont start. Is there a problem with the computer?


Battery should be tested to see if it can hold the charge. You may possibly have an alternator problem or other electrical issue.

you may need them to come back to give you a jump start or[boost] to your battery to start the car. the battery may be dead due to the cold temps. recall AAA and ask them to boost your car to start it. you are not the only person this has happened to during the cold months! suggest you have your battery checked at autozone or an advanced auto for free! it may have a dead cell in it!thank you for choosing fixya.com we are here to assist you anytime!

Electrical Short???


Has the stereo been changed recently? If not move to the cigerett lighter. These two are most likely the prob. But you could have a bare wire anywhere grounding out. Good luck and hope you find it.

1999 BMW 323iS drivers side door. I cannot open the door from the outside. Inside handles and locks work fine.


is the battery flat as this will keep the dead locks on but it will feal as if its unlocking , . you can jump start the car from the starter motor by jacking it up put one lead to sub frame and hold one on starter 12v supply (the thick red one)

BMW 318i e46 locking problem


Get a new lock as the dead lock has broken. But befor you have it installed have the key tumblers for the dead lock
